Firstly sorry for not getting back to you all sooner;this was due to my internet having crashed so the sfr dude arrived and replaced a phone wall plug after testing....

If you give me until tomorrow I will have a date as there's a bit of confusion here with parents and school holidays for their kids(it's worked out in different zones throughout France)...this is required as any parents can dump kids with grandparents or social services or even just sell them.

1. 'At present' it should be 'probably' departing France in or around 28.10.13 returning approx' 2 weeks or so thereafter.....

I see a Brtittany ferry arriving at Santander from Portsmouth at 1730hrs....would there be any merit in riding to my house eating and staying overnight here...then we could ride off the next morning? ...although it's a 4 hr autoroute ride(380kms).

The return leg could also be to rest here and continue on as ferries dictate...?

2. The holiday dates that I have to confirm would be 19.10.13 until in and around the 04.11.13...I see the Pont Aven arriving at 1215hrs on 20.10.13..so this might be better for any UK dudes?...These are the official holidays and could be easier to organize stuff this end....one friend thought that the holidays started on the 28th(but I think not)...so what say ye?...Might be better for you guys?

We could rendezvous at the halfway point in Manzanares on the night of the 20th......we leave here and you leave Santander and as usual everyone rides on the next day??

The general consensus is to camp out a few nights here and there as it lends itself. Anyone who can't be bothered camping can probably find an auberge close to where we'll set up camp....

hi im a bit confused by the above im taking it at the moment that your setting out on 19/10/13 for 15 days ???
please clarify ..thanks

im thinking its a bit too tight its thre days down and three back i really need to catch the 2nd nov ferry as even roscoff stop sailing on 3rd

for example from quazzeratte to the santander ferry i would need three probably four days to make it

im thinking a few days earlier would give us a easier time and we would be able to make the 2nd nov ferry without losining out or rushing it ???
i understand its awkward and if it cant be done i totally understand

but its the stupid ferry thats mucking it up ..we were 21 days last time to cut that by 5 days is a real rush rush job from the north of england

Ohlins 07-04-13 20:01

OK Wide..no problem...if anything else comes up by all means come with us....

:)

minkyhead 07-04-13 20:54

quwerty you have a pm .. thanks

qwerty 08-04-13 10:17

Thanks ohlins I will be looking around for a bike when I get back early may. The one question that somebody could help with is.
What height do you need to be to ride the 660 comfortably ? I'm 5ft 8 ish
I guess the really answer is that I need to take one out for a spin

Minkyhead I have got your pm will phone you tonight 7ish I have a couple of thoughts on the ferry times/fiasco that may help...

Ohlins 08-04-13 10:27

I'm 5'10 and added a link to make the rear higher as it was too low at the rear. It's just right for me now.

The next dealer you're dandering past throw your leg over one and see what's what...

Hi Minkeyhead et al...

I had a chat with the dudes yesterday ref goofy weird prospective dates....and....I've also had a wee peep at the timetables again.

I had read the timetable wrong (that's the start of it)in that I thought the ferry arrived in Santander at 1215hrs on 20.10.13 but it departs on 20.10.13 so therefore it arrives on Monday 21.10.13 at 1215hrs.

The UK dudes last year arrived at that very same time and rode down to Manzanares,so that worked as best as it could.

When the UK dudes from last year went back they were able to get the return ferry from Santander in November;bearing this in mind it seemed strange that they wouldn't be running November this year.....so...Brittany Ferries have been contacted by phone and they state that the November section of their timetables will be published in August....weird I know.

All that to say the duration of the trip is +15 days from my home in France, and this is not set in stone for me.....a few days extra will be no big deal for me so that should allow no tight times at your end providing the ferry times in November will be similar to last year?

For example if we all rendezvous on the evening of 21.10.13 in Manzanares, like the last trip, then we can all ride on down to the boat in Algeciras and continue.

The probability of the ferry times being the same as last year IMO should be the same?

What about waiting and checking each week to make sure the BF site doesn't sneak the November dates in before then.

I'll call and talk to their office to see if there's any update since they were last contacted.

let me know the place time and date ..looking forward to it ,... thanks ... steve

Ohlins 09-04-13 07:50

OK Steve...No problem, sounds like a plan.....Another one for the guillotine!!

There's never any bookings made as in true Team of Goats style we just wing it....so no monies to be forwarded.

If no ferry dates available on the return for anyone just stay at my house on the way back, get well rested and head on when you want...That's that sorted!!

As stated before we operate on a 'Friendly and Frank basis' to keep everything running as smooth as possible.

I'm not so sure though about that 29 gear option ..I think Phil's gloves that he bought from Lidils might beat that.

Anyway...in the meantime if you(or anyone else) can send me your email address to me at kboydnfpa at laposte dot net then we can put you on the list of people wanting to go and keep you updated as weird stuff arrives in.

At the minute we will all meet at Manzanares on the night of the 21st Oct. We eat there, split the cost of the room with each other and scoot down to the ferry the next day.

Autoroute riding it will be,but that's just to save time and cover distance. The more time saved in Europe the more there is to ride in Maroc!!

I'll confirm the name of the hotel as the Parador and speak to one of the UK dudes to get you a real ride-time,for the ride down to Manzanares.

As an aside I'm still riding with the same tyres I had on in Maroc and I'll be able to note how many kms I will get out of them by the end of the summer. I have a ride out over to Marseille on 01.05.13 and on over to the Alpes and then possibly another one over the Alpes in June.

Any other questions just ask.

:)

qwerty 10-04-13 22:24

Hi Ohlins yeah steve and I had a good long natter on the phone, Steve is very much up for it and would be a great addition to your motley team !!

I am still planning on coming along, But I need to make sure the strife is fully on board (we have two young girls) and at the moment with us about to go to Florida to swim with the dolphins, she'll agree to anything I want to do, but six months later ...
(I already have 3 abroad stag do's this year and I am working in Russia for 6 weeks in January)

But yeah the plan is get back and take out a demo and if it suits then look around for a good second hand one and climb aboard the EDC bandwagon so to speak

Inshallah so to speak ;)

Yip..that's correct. Those are the dates to book. Roger who is going(and has just booked the same ferry)lives in Plymouth and has offered a place to bed down for the night before thus saving some money there. He's looking to see if he can find a discount code to save a few more creds. We'll leave Maroc a couple fo days beofre to allow time to get the return ferry home. If anyone plans to leave beofre that datet then they can stay at my house here.(We have a Southern Irish rider doing just that after he rides down from Cherbourg)

That moto is the same as mine!!

Let me know what you think.

Hi Bernard

We should be there for those dates for sure. I know the hotel normally used by Desert Rose from memory..when I rode for Redtread (on those red motos)we used the one beside. I have scheduled a rest/exploring day whilst there which would now allow us to spectate the rally if it's close by that is. Good to know that it's on..thanks for the info.

That's the only planning really except to be in Zagora on the 27th ish...after that more winging it!!!

Hope to see you for a blether...from all the way from Newtownards to Newry to Merzouga!!! its a small world :)

qwerty 13-08-13 10:50

Not to question our Illustrious leader in anyway but I live in PLYMOUTH not Portsmouth that's a 160 odd miles away, he's even called in for a cuppa.
Yep if anyone wants to crash at mine, before catching the ferry the next day you're very welcome. Free bacon butties but you will probably need to use your own sleeping bag.

Oh yes if anyone has a discount code for Brittany ferries, that would be great, I got one of the web but they wanted the holders surname which I didn't have-saves 10%. Beer tokens for the ferry I guess..

Ohlins 13-08-13 10:53

FFS...Mental block....ahhhhhh!!!

...and even after I've had that cup of tea!!!!

EDC strikes again....that's the start of it!!!!(and it certainly won't be the end of it!!)

baaaaaaa!!!!

( I'll edit all the previous to suit ho hum)

.

aliwakeskate 13-08-13 11:11

Right, definitely in on this one as have just booked the ferry!

I found this for the 10% code - you don't need the holders surname as it doesn't ask for it, it only asks for the Lead Passenger which is the person booking the ferry.

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showpos...4&postcount=57

Cheers for the PM qwerty, have replied.

Al

Ohlins 13-08-13 11:16

Splendid!!

Can you email me your contact details when you get a minute?

:)

.

qwerty 13-08-13 19:37

Hi Al got your message no worries :)
I have tracked down a 10% code now the trouble was that I booked in person and they ask who owns the code etc. so if anyone else is booking do it on line !!

Ohlins - I'd love to be joining you and the goat posse on what sounds like a great laugh.... the reality is that after spending a few months in Morocco earlier this year, it aint gonna happen again this year. :brave:

However, should any of your guys have tyre issues while in Morocco - I left some Tourances in Midelt that are free to a good home. :035:

More info on Horizons Unlimited and the challenge to collect them.
