just a tip of my own on rhydation
sachets of dihorlite salts replacment are good if you neck it quick in the morning .. cheap easy to pack for the desert days..its not real nice to tast but neck it down in a small hit and then top up with water ...not great tasting im afraid and could br handy for their intended pupose also http://www.dioralyte.co.uk/content/about-dioralyte |
VESTA BEEF CURRY ...................Hell thats a blast from the past, can you get me one :drool[1]:
I think from ohlins route there will be plenty of water shops and places to get grub and i'm sure having done most of the desert route myself someone will pop up from behind a rock selling pizza :043: I with you on the banana thing though Steve , natures packed lunch and i always carry those energy bars Phil |
Morning chaps!
There'll be no problem getting food en route. Normally when I leave to ride a trail I can ask locals over a cup of tea what they think and if it's doable etc. I enjoy this part of traveling and interaction(as long as they try not to sell me something :) ) We should be bunny hopping along the trails between villages etc. Any village usually has a shop to buy a disc of bread or a packet of pasta etc along with water. Hopefully we'll have the choice of deciding at the end of a trail and if accommodation is available to bedding down there. I don't particularly fancy 4 days in a row camping if I can help it! As we're all winging it we can all have a chat about an idea and change as we see fit......and this is the most important bit........we can then blame someone and banter them until the next stupid thing happens. :) I'd throw in a couple of dried soups/tea bags and then buy en route in Maroc. No need to jam everything in.(Some of the larger towns even have Spar sized supermarkets) A camal bak and a couple of bottles will be enough on each trail. Don't forget any auberges we come across usually have water in stock which we can buy if anyone gets low. I'll post up what I have in my panniers and that'll give you an idea as to how you can travel light and buy on the day. All this prepping tells me I'm off somewhere so now I'm starting to look forward to it even more! Off out now for a trail ride into Spain with 3 other EDC members :) . |
Pannier contents ideas...
This works for me....
My panniers are 34L each.( 8"x15"x17") In no particular order; In the LHS I carry; 1. 1x empty container for storing cast off riding kit i.e. quilted & waterproof liners. The jacket liner will do as a light 'jumper' at night if need be (more so in the Northern Atlas if we stop with problems) 2. Container with rolled up;2x two wicking t shirts(also I'll be wearing one);1x light pair of cotton trousers;2x boxers;2x pairs of socks 3. Sleeping bag in compression sack. 4. 1 x can of air filter oil 5. 1x 500mls of oil for chain oiler 6. A few very small cans of sauce..the kind you put into pasta...if no pasta I can heat these up and dip bread into same. 7. 1x pair flip flops 8. On top 'Coleman' 2 man tent...big enough to stash boots & helmet etc. 9. Exterior.. 1x litre of water 10. 1x Coleman 'Feather 442' petrol stove. In the RHS pannier 1 1st aid kit 3.Box with shower kit i.e. 1x fibre towel;4x razors;1x minute bottle of shaving oil;1x roll on deodorant;1x dental floss;1x tooth paste and 1x body wash 4.2x paper maps 7 1 x compact aluminium cooking kit/eating irons along with 3x dried soup stashed inside. 8. 1x tarp 9. Exterior; 2 x litres of fuel for cooker 10. Most importantly ...exterior bottle opener(although most beer is in cans) 11. Lighter for cooker. 12. 1x small roll of --20/30L bin bags for dirty clothes and rubbish...and to put over feet when it's raining in Spain. 13. Camera charger. 14. Mini compressor and chain breaker tool. 15. 1x small container with tea/coffee sachets I have no roll mat as I can sleep on my riding kit and in my quilted liners if need be. It could be cool at night. I can lift off and use a pannier as a seat. There you have it...at the end of the day you'll be in riding kit all day and will only need light clothes to dander into the B&B eating room/bivouac in the evening. E.g.Your boxers will be drying after washing them in the shower/sink and if still damp the next morning you can stash them away and put on a dry pair...the damp ones can be hung over the handlebar whilst eating lunch etc so you'll have a roll on effect if need be. :) |
