Boneman give me your bike for a week and I'll wear those tyres out for you hehe.

Mine only lasted 8000km and both front and rear were totaly stuffed.

They are not a real good wet weather tyre but are ok in the dry.

Sorry, but I disagree. Running 33/37 on sealed roads and 22/25 on dirt, I find the Tourances to be just fine on everything except clay/mud/any greasy off-road surface. Mine are almost worn out but still feel ok.

Compared with Metzeler Karoos, Dunlop D606 and various other tyres on various other bikes, for everyday use the Tourances haven't bothered me much (except in the abovementioned greasy stuff, where they are scary imo. No surprises there... Well, lots really!!). No doubt they'd be pretty bad in snow etc, but that isn't an issue for me.

Easily punctured might be true. I had a rock fracture the tread carcase on a new tubeless Tourance I used for about 1700km before re-fitting the original. Unsure whether any other tyre would have survived. Possibly not.

Yes, it's probably made worse by lower pressure, but they definitely perform badly on road irregularities in my experience. The Tourance I tried on my old GS behaved exactly the same way. I agree with ThunderDownUnder that you can't knock their basic performance on flat dry tarmac at reasonable temperatures (or even dry forest tracks). I found that they were worse as ambient temperatures fell, particularly if wet as well.

Pressure

Ok so what is the recommended pressure for a standard XTR with no luggage and a 80kg rider?
The user hand book suggests 29 psi front and rear for an 80 kg rider (cold)

Thanks

Marc

I have a second set of rims with D606s on for dirt & offroad work, so what would be a decent DS/Adventure tyre for mainly commuting to work, the odd road fang & occasional gravel road trip? Everyone has their own theory on it, from Pirelli to Conti Escape to Heidenhau.

What do you guys reckon? Cheers, Boneman

Shenko 705 or the Fullbore M41 rebrand ....
All I use on my XTR now..

Not sure on the recommended pressure only used them as a guide and always went above them by a good 2-3 psi.

How long have you had the R? and miles youve done?

In the dry the R is grand, i would commonly drag the pegs and my toes to the extent i had no toe sliders after a good summer!!!! It just what way you ride the bike, it take well to you grabbing it by the neck and throwing it on its ear in a corner with high mid corner speed.

I did put a set of Diztanias thingys on the R and they were probably the same in the wet and dry to the tourances and thats really the only road tyres i used part from the tourances.

Put Tourances on mine and they have been great alot more grip than the standard ones and give me cornering confidence.

Saturday on the way home from Malham just out of Arncliffe my new MAGNETIC Tourance found a nail - FLAT.

Recovery home, wheel out yesterday and my mate is coming by today to pick it up and repair/replace the tybe has I have no tyre levers.

Same.

I had tourences on my R and never found I had any problems. My pressures were not as low as that from what I remember.

I actually prefere them to the Avons that are currently on my Z.

Yes, on the road, lower-than-recommended pressures do make Tourances feel a bit weird imo.

Mine started to tram-track noticeably, so I pumped them up to 33/37 again. Even though nearly worn out, the tyres feel pretty good again.

I have a nearly-new front one from my TTR's brief on-road experience, and will order another rear to suit. I like them well enough for general use, but that certainly doen't mean anyone has to agree with me. Different perceptions and riding styles demand a different feel.

Nothing like a different feel, I always say.
