Puig Screen for X/R - Any Good?
 

Does anyone have the Puig screen for the X/R? I was wondering if they offer any decent wind protection? The standard is awful past 70 (apparently...!)

Dude, i have been riding my x for ages now with the std screen, all through winter in an mx lid and honestly it aint as bad as ppl make out. I think if you are coming from a faired bike you will notice the buffeting more but it aint nothing worth the 75 squids they want for one of those screens. IMO anyway.

I've been thinking about getting one of these. There is no protection whatsoever with the standard screen.

On the road i'm used to sportsbikes, but for the last 18 months i've only had a crosser although only ridden that on practice tracks. I'm using my crosser lid with standard screen at present. I wanted to do some good road trips on the XTR (cumbria/scotland to go through the forests), but it's a nightmare to sit at motorway speeds with my current setup. I could do it for a couple of hours tops without getting pissed off.

Sounds like the puig is a token effort. Ideally i want to change to a Tenere in late autumn anyway so will save my �70 and limit my road trip distances until then!

Without wanting to sound like a tw....t, the best way to avoid this is to avoid motorways. It's a long and arduous lesson to learn, and comes with miles and experience, but you get so much more out of being on the bike when you start your journey at your front door (rather than a motorway dash to Cumbria/Scotland etc) and take the B and C roads. Yes it adds days to your trip, but I've found, and many will agree, it's all about the journey not the destination (a bit like life).

Slow down, take the long way round, and you even see stuff in your own town/village/city , that you may well have missed for years. Your license will thank you too.

On a more practical note, I did find on the Varadero, that a bigger screen didn't mean better. I remember paying �Stupid for a Touratech screen, which was actually worse than the original, then I lowered the original and got better airflow.

It could be your lid too, the Mx lid has a longer peak than road lids, so more to catch the air.

anyway, back to :sleepy2: for me... and my useless advice.

Well I have a confession to make, I just bought a Puig Screen for the XTX as well as a hugga thing to try and stop me getting soaked by the front wheel every time it rains a few drops, but I have not yet got round to fitting either so I will report in due course ok????

Using the Puig screen quite a while now, i don't want to miss it anymore.
It just takes the pressure off the chest and avoids fatigue on longer streches.
The head remains well "ventilated"

That Puig screen is not much better than the standard X/R screen. I found my X tiring if you did the main A roads or motorways. My last X, I had a touring screen and that was fantastic. I tried to avoid the motorways but sometimes you have to expecially if you need to be somewhere in a hurry. I found the touring screen cured the tiring wind blast effect totally even at relative high speed.

That's true. Therefore i dont like it at all!
That screen just takes away the enduro feeling and makes me feel like riding a Harley or Gold Wing.:icon_scoot[1]:
