I left my Tenere in the shop today for a new loom and rectifier, my bike was the only Yamaha they have for repair, but there was four BMW GS waiting for repair (and they where put aside to make place for my Tenere :-)...)

What i've been reading the rectifier/connector issue is a Tenere problem other issues could happen on any bike....

And of course in a forum you see threads from the guys that have a problem, look at any Corvette, Harley, Porsche forum etc they all have problems that they ask and write about....

Don't hesitate, it's pretty good quality on this bike (just check that the connectors is ok

my reg/rec went it was in warranty and it got fixed.

thanks to the great folk on here i was able to get a quick diagnosis and get the problem fixed.

every time i think about changing the bike i just go for a spin and get a huge grin.

get a single can, saves weight sounds ace, plus kev mod and a filter.

worst mpg is about 44 mpg but that was thrashing the pants off her !

best is 65 +

you have a great bike enjoy it.

as soon as i saw the ten I wanted it, if i had waited i could have saved myself

about 1500 quid but hey ho i have had that in laughs then again i only piad 1300 quid for my ttr and that bike is flippin brill.

i think you will notice a drop in power compared to the 990 mind, the old girl could do with a few extra bhp for when the going gets fast:Driving_6XFY3G:

Yes it's a big drop in power, but I new that and overall I'm very happy with the bike as it was half the price that I payed for the 990. Still waiting for someone regarding the one click on the reg/rec to ease my mind lol.

i have a 2009 XT660Z - 50,000 miles on mine - 38,000 miles in 5 months...i'd call it reliable YES!!!

Spooky, the only reason we are emphasizing get the 'click' is to ensure that the two parts are fastened together. My advice would be to take apart and clean off everything, inside and out. The fit together when not on the bike, yes take the reg/ rectifier off. The you can see how the two parts are supposed to fit together. Then on assembly ensure that there is some form of grease, vaseline or better still dialectric grease filling the cavity with the pins. This will ensure that no water can get in. Then when you reassemble you need to ensure that the connectors inside the connection are good because the problem with all of thesebreakdowns is that the EARTH terminal heats up, starts to melt the connector which distorts, allows moisture in and the problem escalates. We just need to ensure that the terminals are connected well and you will have no problems.:icon_lol:

Ok thanks Steve I did take it off the bike and all looks very clean and tidy, sprayed it all with WD40 and put it back together but didn't fill with grease so I will do what you said and fill it up. Thanks again.
