Or are you talking about Avon ProXtreme Rain?

Talking about the Distanzia's. Had a look, they look very nice (not to knobly). Now I have seem them on an X along with the mega positive comments on them this is the tyre I am going to change to.

My front is almost ready for a change so I shall start calling local dealers for a price.

Many thanks.

FM - Nice price. I need a front ASAP. I have just measured my front and it is right on the limit is places. Not that I will use the same fitting company but what would you expect to pay for a pro to fit the supplier tyres?

I'm gonna order from these as I dont think anyone will match that price locally to me.

i don't pay anything I just take me wheels off and give tyres and wheels to a mate to sort. just have to take them to local tyre fitters for balancing which costs 5

but if i went down to me local tyre fitting gaff it would cost me about 20-30 i think for the pair

Tony660x 03-03-07 20:49

My front tyre is now on order also. Cheers for the link. I have also ordered a front paddock stand and a few other bits and bobs. Nice site will use again.

Tony660x 06-03-07 00:30

Got a few quotes today. The best price for fitting a new tyre complete with balancing and VAT was 12. I have to take the wheel in off the bike which is what I prefer as I hate other people messing with my pride & joy. Nice thing is I ride/drive past it every day for work. How ace is that?
Get a good price off the net via a tip from FM then get a local fitting place to do the specialist bit.

Well chuffed. The power of the forum strikes again!

You are going to need a heck of a wrench to remove the front wheel ask Buck the size as I am not sure but is the bigger hex we have ever heard of...

I have the 14mm size (phew). I recently purchased is as part of a set at a local motor factors. It is the type that is attached to a socket so can be connected to a torque wrench.

Yipeee.

Tony660x 10-03-07 12:00

Ok got the new front Avon Distanzia fitted this morning and then I have just refitted the front wheel back on to the bike.

Couple of things. Its a pleasure to work on the XT everything is so easy to work on. The manual supplied by the Capt is ace.

Secondly nice looking tyre. Once I have watched the Moto GP I shall be out on the beast scrubbing it in.

I have attached a nice clear picture of it for anyone who is interested.

Sweet!

AJT690KTM 10-03-07 12:09

If that is the tyre that Capt-wobbly is reccomending to everybody, why is it different from what he is running??????:confused2: :confused2: :confused2:

Tony660x 10-03-07 12:20

The Capt has another Avon on. Not sure of its name but Its not a distanzia. I think his rear is a Distanzia. Judging by his pictures in the gallery?

CaptMoto 10-03-07 15:41

Yeah the front one is an Avon ProXtreme Rain, bloody good value for money, it's still going after I have forgotten how many rear ones... but I will eventually get a front Distanzia like the one in Tony's pic when my current one is finally worn.

FostersMonster 10-03-07 16:02

fitted both my avons yesterday, all worn in just been out and done near 150 miles, i feel more confident on these ones more than any other tyre i've had, got it down thurther on a roundabout more than I have done before, and with me g/f on the back!

CaptMoto 10-03-07 16:05

So Darrell the verdict is?

FostersMonster 10-03-07 16:08

I like them I like them a lot! :smile[2]:

thanks for bringing these tyres into my life Fran:icon_thumleft:

CaptMoto 10-03-07 16:31

tried and tested mate, my pleasure entirely :D Darrell make a note of the mileage and keep it somewhere safe, I would be interested to see how long they last you, and then perhaps we can make a thread comparing with other makes to see what everyone gets in terms of mileage from the various makes of tyres.

I like mine to. FM when yours were fitted did they need balancing? My front one did not but after a good run out and possibly due to the fact it replaced a slick Pirelli Dragon it is not out of balance as such but is not as smooth as the Pirelli was.

I know to some extent this will improve as it scrubs and wears.

A definate improvement over the Pirelli in terms of handling.

Funnily enough I took my GF out to Boxhill on the bike yesterday and I got the bike down further than ever on a few bends with her on the back, great tyres! Thanx Fran

Excellent deal on eBay for Avon Distanzia tyres:

Rear & Front

Norton 25-03-07 22:39

Fitted Avons to mine last weekend, done around 300 miles commuting, M25, M4 and London, Excellent, feels solid on the road. I do about 1000 miles a month so will be good to see how they wear.

CaptMoto 25-03-07 22:47

in that case please be so kind to fill in this database so that we can compare in the long term who had what out of them. http://xt660.com/showthread.php?t=2211

CaptMoto 25-03-07 22:53

Distanzia are ACE

veedub 31-03-07 17:45

After reading through the tyre section, i decided to take the plunge and got Avon Distanzia's fitted last wednesday.Got them srucbed in on the same day and have been out in the rain on them on thursday and friday.

First impressions are excellent, quality wet weather performance and with what dry weather conditions i have encountered recently they seem equally at home.

Just a quick question to you Dis owners have you kept the pressure's the same as the OE tyres or are you trying anything different??

I am quite heavy so to lose the squirmy feeling I need mine set at 31 front and 33 rear.

ManicMic 22-05-07 11:25

I've got an Avon Distanzia rear tyre ready to go on the back in a 1000 miles or so. Do they work ok with a Pirelli Dragon on the front?

Wonder Boy 09-06-07 16:08

Well Ive just bought a rear avon distanzia since you lot seem to rate them very high. Bought them off here 91.60 plus P+P http://www.moto-tyres.co.uk/start.html.

keith 09-06-07 22:58

I dont actually have an XT660, but do have an Apilia Pegaso Strada (same motor) and have been running an MZ Baghira 660 street moto (older design 660 Yam motor) for 5 years.
The MZ has been run on a varyity of tyres, and the best front to date has been an Avon Pro extreme rains. They seem to last about 5-6000 miles. I have tried the Distanza front and it didnt inspire as much confidence (if any one local to me wants to try the distanza front then they can have it for 30, its done about 200 miles)
On the rear the best has been a Maxxis Goldspeed cut slick, but I havent tried it in the wet yet.
I have used Distanza rears and can comment that they give really good grip and handling performance. They also handle gentle offf orad work to. Providing they stay together (several have tried to `peel' at the splice or join) they seem to last about 3500 miles.
I did try a pro extreme rain on the rear, but it only lasted 958 miles : (but did grip really well).
BTW the distanza rears are still available as my son had one fitted to his motard today (09/06/07)

Hi keith. If it's definately the right size then I'll have it. Can't do much at the moment though as I'm off to Poole this morning but I'll be in touch either this evening or tomorrow sometime.

Cheers

Hey people got the new Avon Distanzia (160?60R17 (69H) . Just wanted to ask, it says "rear tubeless" will this be ok to go onto the XTX rim??. Cant wait to get out on the bike with all this Sunny weather up here north.:HappyRoll_ANPIUI:

Gav

CaptMoto 14-06-07 19:46

All the tyres supplied to these bike say tubeless but whilst they fit ok on the XT rims, they'll still need a tube in them otherwise air will leak through the spokes joints.

FostersMonster 14-06-07 19:46

there absalutly fine, even though they say tubeless the tube stays in there
on me 2nd rear, enjoy u will!

FostersMonster 14-06-07 19:47

haha beet me to it!:laughing4:

Tony660x 14-06-07 21:21

Just got my rear Distanzia from Busters today in the post YIPPPEEEEE! Cant wait to get it on the bike Saturday. I can finally get the Michelin off.

Well chunky.

xtfreak 15-06-07 00:01

When i first got my bike the pirelli dragon tyres had had it.
Not knowing any differant , i thought it best to stick with pirelli.
Ive got diablos on back and front. Front looks fine as does the rear.
Surely you can only judge 1 tyre from another by pushing them to there limit.
How can you tell.?
Some tyres do look better than others but for me, grip is everything. I dont do many miles and all dry. Have i made the wrong choice.
If so, does anyone want to buy em.
