Hi been lurking on here for while thinking of changing my africa twin for tenere , tested xtz yesterday the one i tryed had 400 miles on clock the engine wasn't as flexable as i would have liked ,if you were under 3,000 revs it wouldn't pull cleanly even in lower gears , they reckon when engine has some miles on its much better , also seat height i'm 6ft 1 and were on tip toes in places ???? :115:

Remember it's a big single and not a twin. Completely different from the AT.Lots of things can be done to improve tractibility, just have a rake aboot on this site. The only mod I made was down a tooth on the front sprocket. Huge difference.

There great bikes and versatile....no more wondering what is down the tracks or across the mountain trails. I often wonder off down some trail and find some amazing places both here and abroad.

I agree with you about not pulling well below 3k rpm, you just adjust though, I'm normally trying to keep the engine between 4-5k rpm where most of the power is. It's a great bike, you won't regret buying it

Agree, keep above 3K otherwise it will chug.

hi guys , just found an outfit called kahedo based in germany , they do a nice seat exchange for the tenere , anyone done this . ?

Fit a DNA air filter and top, Kevs mod. Mine pulled cleanly from 2k revs

my solution is to use a 14 t front sprocket for everyday hooning about and off roading its much much better ... far more tractable at 30 40 and 50 ..more zip and still being able to chug along at 75mph on the way home on motorways ..

the tenere has good thumper charactristics ...off road it has that happy knack of operating when it feels like it should stall and tugging you and the bike up or over ...
it does take some getting used to
the obvious pros ..v the cons
it took me some months to get to know the bike and alter stuff
without going into all the many mods available on protection and stuff
i found the below simple mods transformed the ergos and drivability on some reasononbley tough terrain

im 6ft 1 and lowered the rear and front by 1in for off roading..so i could plant me feet

14t sprocket

30cm raisers

the height is a advantage ..ground clearence vs legs ..disadvantage ..

i would say the more off road you do the more the tenere has got going for it ... it really has surprised me as to where it will go

i guess you need to figure how much road to off road you will do to reap the full benifit of the tenere..

Stev very true as you know im still getting used to my one been off road, and cant wait for the next outing aye :-)
Next purchace for me will tyres versitile yes i know know lol ... the ones you recomended think I will go for those.......

I did this last year Sold a Africa Twin and bought a Tenere.

If this helps in my experience.....

I'm the same hight as you and find that on the Tenere your legs are in a better postion than on the Africa Twin on very long runs, but that does put more weight on to your back side.

If your doing more road miles then the Africa Twin is by far the better bike
If however you intend to take your bike off road quite a bit then the Tenere is the better bike.

The Tenere motor does gets better after 10,000 miles , but you will still need to work the gear box more than you would on the Africa Twin
There is also more room on the Tenere for a pillion.

I have been thinking of going back to a V twin because I miss the feel of the Africa Twins motor as it suits my riding style better, but that said I know that whats on the market wont be as good off road as the Tenere is..
