Had a wee look at the DNA website there and all nice and pretty but it might be me but what is a Stg 3 filter, surely that would just a massive air box that is all filter.:paranoid:

??DNA range and cleaning
 
Was wondering how long a Stage 1 and 2 filter will last before it starts affecting performance or cause damage?...how do i "see" it.

Going on a 5 day trip into the unknown, will be traveling in group of about 6 guys, riding approx 2000km, 80% dirtroads. Clogging up of filter due to dust will certainly cause it to clog up fast....what do you do if you out in the field and no cleaning / re-oil kit with you?.

With old paper filter you can still get rid of maybe most of dirt and dust by shaking and blowing it out....cotton filters with oil there is no alternative???

Hi Gerhard,
If you are using DNA filters, you can ride the bike for 15.000 -20.000 km before it is necessary to clean them, even under the worst conditions. An easy way to check the condition of the filters is to see if the external wire mesh (dirty side) is visible. If you can see the wire you can continue using the filters, if the wire is buried in the dirt (see attachment) you must clean them.
Now concerning the stock paper filter, the worst thing someone can do is blow the filter, the only acceptable solution is to change it, if you really care for your engine.

In the extreme case that you will need to clean your DNA filters, it is possible as long as you have 2-3 hours to spare(drying the filter takes time), you will need to carry a DNA service kit, which is small enough to carry, wash the filter (like washing clothes), dry the filter (under the sun), re-oil strictly using DNA oil and the DNA applicator. The complete procedure can be done in the country side, even using water from a lake or river! Very simple!

I'm very statisfied with my DNA filter. It keeps out the dirt when driving the motorcross track ( http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?...hlight=offroad) ;)
Cleaned it yesterday after spending 7 hours at the track.
Take a look at the pics. The front is full of dirt as the backside is clear.

I've been reading up on here about the DNA stage 2 filters and I'd like like something clearing up.

From a lot of what I've read, apparently when fitting the stage 2 filter the bike will gain about 3hp ish. But other things I've read said that the bike will run lean and will need a power commander and dyno time to get the map right. But then apparently the stage 2 is the best hp/money comprimise?

So how does that work if buying a �60 bolt on filter means you've then got to get a �280 power commander?

What I'm asking is, if I bought a stage 2 filter, do I really need to get a power commander? because really, for what its worth, its a lot of money to shell out!

It is advisable to use a fuelling device to get the best out of the filter mod. Many riders over the years have not used a fuelling device when fitting a DNA stage 2 filter, we have not seen any engine damage reports when just using a stage 2 filter. But I still recommend a fuelling device to be fitted.

There are many fuelling devices to chose from besides the power commander, I make the cheapest fuelling devise that will do the job just fine.
