Just update this thread on the EBC front brake disc, now the disc and pads have settled in I can review them with a better understanding of them.

The braking effectiveness is ok, pretty close to the original if anything slightly less bite. The weight is considerably lighter, I dont have the figures but you can tell. The only real negative is the noise it makes when you apply the front brake, its like an eletric motor is being spun up as you apply the pressure, the harder you press the louder it becomes. Its not a deal breaker but its worth noting.

Overall I am happy with them and I know there is no chance these can rust in the centre as they are alloy not steel unlike the originals.

8/10.

I think the noise comes from the pads.

On new drilled discs it's the holes that cause noise like Tony describes. The square lip of each hole needs to be run in and the noise will go after a few thousand miles.

I changed my pads to EBC Sintered and they do make some noise when you apply the front brake. It's not the brake disc (rotor) that sounds, mine is the OEM one..

My brakes have made this noise with various different pads and I'm still running the original disc. I quite like it, you can hear its doing what it should.

Good to know the EBC disc is ok. A chap at my MOT station made a valid point the other day. We all regularly stump up quite a few bucks for tyres and these last a fraction of the time of a brake disc. He reckons spend a little more than you think and get good quality, it'll be better value in the long run.
