EBC Front Brake Disc - Opinions

I am just about to purchase my front brake disc. After much deliberation I am going for the EBC offerings using the XT660.com discount. Does anyone have anything to offer either good or bad for these discs?

If not I am ordering it later tonight and will let you all know how I got on with the supplier, disc quality, performance over the standard OEM disc.

I will use a standard pad as well.

TBH i can safely say a decent percentage of people seem to think they're rubbish

I have done extensive reasearch already hence the post on second opinions (inconclusive). I first was going to get the wavey but read they are poor as well. I had heard little negative replys on the EBC's, just a couple of people saying they rattled.

Thats why I posted here as anyone fitting a disc here is likely to have fitted it to an XTX not a Fireblade or other sports bike. Its not like for like, maybe EBC are poor on those bikes but thats not relevant. Has anyone fitted to our bikes and whats the result. Worth it or not?

I think the Waveys are very much manufacturer specific as to quality. For exmaple i've not heard bad words about Galfer... but i have about cheap Chinese ones...

Fair comment. I have been tempted on the cheap Chinese ones but reviews have them as not so good so thats why I am sterring clear of them.

Just checked out the Galfer ones, 182.40 delivered! Ouch. Thats about 50 more than the EBC.

Weeksy thanks for your input. Based on eveything I have read online and here I have just ordered the EBC 320mm front disc and pads using the forum discount. I am taking a leap of faith really as I have no images of the rotor, I hope it looks ok and more importantly performs at least as good as the original which is warped!

Total cost with a new set of standard EBC pads 152 delivered. I will post photos as usual and give a report of them after fitting giving my verdict.

There is very limited info on brake discs on the forum so anything will help others in the future.

not wanting to pi55 on your parade because i HOPE it works out.. but i'm finding more and more in life these days "you get what you pay for".

I'm ending up nowdays buying better and higher priced parts simply because cheaper often ends up being complete garbage. Obviously they're not Chiniese copies so are not exactly cheap garbage... well i hope not for you.

Just to close out this thread. Got the EBC disc and its very nice. Time will tell how it performs but it cannot be any worse than my warped one it has now replaced.

Just update this thread on the EBC front brake disc, now the disc and pads have settled in I can review them with a better understanding of them.

The braking effectiveness is ok, pretty close to the original if anything slightly less bite. The weight is considerably lighter, I dont have the figures but you can tell. The only real negative is the noise it makes when you apply the front brake, its like an eletric motor is being spun up as you apply the pressure, the harder you press the louder it becomes. Its not a deal breaker but its worth noting.

Overall I am happy with them and I know there is no chance these can rust in the centre as they are alloy not steel unlike the originals.

8/10.

I think the noise comes from the pads.

On new drilled discs it's the holes that cause noise like Tony describes. The square lip of each hole needs to be run in and the noise will go after a few thousand miles.

I changed my pads to EBC Sintered and they do make some noise when you apply the front brake. It's not the brake disc (rotor) that sounds, mine is the OEM one..

My brakes have made this noise with various different pads and I'm still running the original disc. I quite like it, you can hear its doing what it should.

Good to know the EBC disc is ok. A chap at my MOT station made a valid point the other day. We all regularly stump up quite a few bucks for tyres and these last a fraction of the time of a brake disc. He reckons spend a little more than you think and get good quality, it'll be better value in the long run.
