Ok Ben
I was offended, I will explain why as you have taken the trouble to explain your comments.

The small piece of Aly is worth about 38 pence at todays prices, the process however is not 5 mins of metalwork.

When something is made on a centre lathe and a milling machine there are costings to take into account. These include tooling, materials and time. lathes and milling machines are charged at a "rate" as well as these are never free (well, none of mine were anyway) Simply put, you can't sell something for the cost of its raw Mtls.

The operations involved in that split collar include producing a Drg, turning OD, boring ID, machining chamfer on doth dias, parting off, machining chamfers on other side, milling slots using correct cutting oils then deburring.
If I was in full scale production of a part like this, I would make it on a sliding head and sell for a tenner because production costs would be very much lower.

I was not hoping to find blind, deaf and dumb punters for this. I was offering a bespoke solution to a mounting issue for those that could appreciate the process and the benefit that such an item could bring. Your comments have made me think that I was perhaps a little too free in offering this service to a forum.

No hard feelings mate, end of the matter please.

excuse my ignorance...but can I see a pic of the finished article on its own.?

I don't know what this is all about. Will it fit my Snooper Sat Nav Indago.?

It's a split collar. It changes your top bar to 22mm for any clamping device, it's nothing specific to any particular sat nav. I made it to allow proper mounting of the ram clamp that came with the 660. Can hold the ram mount and shake the bike about with it now, this wont move "when clamped in position with the ram clamp of course"

Too right, those RAM plastic bits are worse than useless, dammed thing bounces around like crazy when you use them.

OK, you explained later on, but can you please put your brain into gear before letting your fingers loose on your keyboard in future.

Ilkleyal has gone through the trouble of making a bespoke part to fit a very real problem, if you don't like it, or think its too expensive then it is less effort on your part to say nothing.

If you think you can produce the collar for less, then please go ahead, nothing wrong with a free market. The cost is the cost, if you don't like it don't buy it!

Sorry guys

To clear the point up it was me that said "I can do without crap like that".

I was speaking of comments made ref the possible supply of these things and I accept that in this case it looks like I was quoting someone.

I was not quoting, I was annoyed and I apologise for the above confusion.

From hazy memory I think it is 14mm. There is a chance I may well be wrong, it's been a long time since I measured it when I made up the camera brackets, and then map holder.

Ilkleyal 07-02-11 11:02

It's 12.7 on mine which is approximate half inch

I would go with Al's assessment, it's been almost two years since I measured mine!
