Pete, this is the linkpipe I made-

2 x 45' bends and then I used a section from a Firestorm link pipe for the bottom section that you need.

Cheers folks:)

Tom- nice, you got a side view? Just wondering how close it sits to the frame. I want to move mine back so it's not too close to the frame (for heat) just wondering how you did it.

Only this one -

which doesn't really show you the bit you want I suspect. The link pipe was clear of the wheel travel (as tested by doing jumps) and the silencer was clear of the subframe as well. Didn't have any heat issues.

it looks like you got the pipe properly lined up according the the lines of the bike. it's a real pity that almost all aftermarket pipes sit at an odd angle.

a quick update, my exhaust is finished and mounted ready to go out and see how it sounds when riding - i cant do that until my seat comes back from being reshaped, so i'm having to wait.

its tedious - the roads are dry and we've even had some mild days, but i've got no damn seat....

Good stuff Pete, keep us posted.

well..... here's how it looks.

http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...g/IMGP0229.jpg

I've had it on the bike, in use, for about six weeks now, sounds great - not too loud, just nice.

I was just about to start chopping up the innards of the other can to do the toolpod, and i thought i'd just have a close look at the can on the bike - just to make sure it really was ok, as it had been getting a bit hot.

Ooh dear. Turns out it had been getting really hot as a result of my internal mods. Slowing the gas down has created hotspots inside which have got hot enough to burn the carbon outer of the can. Whoops. In most places it just shows up as a brown patch, but in one place behind the mounting strap it has literally burnt to a crisp- not to a hole but not far off.

So, on to plan B. Except that right now that involves 3 things-
putting the other, unmodified can on (ooh it's a bit loud)
figuring out how to quieten this one without it overheating
finding somewhere to buy a new skin for the damaged can

any suggestions for the last two?

Pete.

Ok Pete, for the noise issue, take a leaf from Remus's book and baffle the link pipe.
For a new carbon sleeve give these guys a ring with your measurements- http://www.aa16.co.uk/

I made a carbon silencer for my old DR600. I managed about 3 miles before the outlet end plate was blown off as the carbon fractured around the rivets.

I've had my Akrapovic system chopped so it now just has a silencer on the left, and no cat, but I can't bring myself to just hollow out the old right hand side silencer, as I'm sure I'll find a use for it on another bike. I think I'll just use a Tool Tube from Adventure Spec! :eusa_clap:
