This might be a daft question or been covered on a different thread but will the raptor engine fit in the xt as one lump so no need to mod one out one in??
|
The Raptor bottom end is completely different to the XT, also the gear ratios are not even close to each other.
|
Or you could just go and buy a Husky 450/570....
..... 12000 ish gulp! |
I would have to modify that as well, 12G + moding.
When I think back I have just about modified every bike I have ever owned in some way, I am on number 43. |
if only i hadn't sold my Ducati 250 mk111.........i loved it!!
and, i couldn't sell it for 500.....everyone wanted an RD ....sold for 275. It makes me cry.........i needed the money. Similar bike today 7000 ish. |

That is why you need to build a motor that can produce the bepower across the whole rev range, not in the mid range only where you want it.

Reverse Megaphone Exhaust
Freez mentioned it earlier in this thread.
I have had a chat with an engine builder, who also approves of them. WHAT DO YA THINK GUYS, THEY LOOK DEAD SEXY TOO! (the pipe before the silencer, and yes, I know its not an XT! Just for illustration purposes, ok?) http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1283283026 Notice how the diameter of the link pipe "cones" |

If you have a close look at my link pipes from any of my photo's they are also coned, I had them specially made for my Carbon Cans back in 2006. They tapper from 34mm to 50mm ID. |
Estimated Cost of my (ever-growing) Conversion
So far!!... Spare Barrel 60 Rebore/plating 130 Piston Kit 115 Top Gasket 37 Bottom Gasket 10 Oil/sundries 20 +3 throttle body 130 Webb springs/ret and HDD5050 Cam 290 +2 Valves 50 2x Exhaust valves 50 Valve guides 58 Shipping UK-US-UK 35 Head flow/port 275 Plus Rebuild/strip 220 Then, undecided so far.... Try a special profle cam Rev. meg Exhaust 600 |
Make sure the re-platers do a good job, we have already had one 686cc conversion plating come off the cylinder at 1800kms & damage the cylinder & his new piston.

Dynatek Ignitions
Would there be any advantage running one of these Programmable Dynatek Ignitions?
I think I'll speak to Simon at Powertech, but what do you think, Kev? How many revs will the standard rod take, will occasional rpm to 7750 be ok, if I up the rev limiter, and the cam isn't dropping off as early as a Raptor cam? I won't hold you to anything, just a "no-comeback on Kev opinion?", as if we were private messaging. So, viewers, don't get any ideas!! Valve springs are being uprated. Will the Dynatek help me much any other way.? Do they help smooth the lower revs? |
You won the lottery or something?!
:grouphug5: |
My Mother passed away.....I don't think she would want me skulking about, and she would want to see me happy.
This project kind of takes your mind off things......and she left me some money!! |
Just had a look at my Dynatek catalogue, the DFS7-21P is the one for the Raptor 700 and is programmable. The only way to find out if it fits is to get a bike to Dynojet and if it does fit have the ignition mapped properly. I wouldn't really trust anyone else to do an ignition map as most of the Dyno centres in the UK don't even know how to use their Dyno's.
It will probably be available to order only so someone is going to have to spend some money. Simon Powertech |
Ah well, sorry to hear bud!
But Kudos though to wanting to mod your bike up like that! Very much wish I could do the same. Should be a very nice machine once you've finished with it all, very envious here! :applause: |

I will do a bit of research on my Raptor forum for the advantages, which believe me, they would consider ( my Conversion) a mild to medium tune!! Like a Lamb Bhuna..... |

Spoke to a guy with a Raptor 700 tonight, seems you can get a turbo kit for them.
|
Yep I know, incredible isn't it?...not for me tho' Simon.....!!
I've been watcing some Supermono racing on Youtube, where they use the XT engine, amongst others....those race bikes, in tiny 125cc chassis size, are amazing. And what a noise!! |
A mate at work...
Well, a colleague should I say, has an Aprillia SXV 450 I think and although it makes 60hp and is more suited to racing and looks fantastic, they're a terrible bike for anything BUT racing. I would hate to ride one on the road, there is virtually NO fuel tank, the seat could split a hair in half and he's had nothing but problems with it with a near new bike. If you want a road going supermoto though the XT is win! It's comfortable with a decent tank size and can cruise along listening to the burble of the twin cans at 70 quite happily. |
Well I have to decide what to do about the Camshaft...
The higher performance ones do worry me a bit, but it hasn't seemed to worry the engine builder. So, I have to get my order together for the USA, and have decided to go for a HDD5050 Camshaft to try . If I don't get on with it, it should be easy to sell anyway (maybe to an Aussie!). We will do the rocker mod so that we can swap cams easily, and the valves and springs are being uprated anyway... I think I will have to try a custom profile as well. The piston should be arriving shortly, and then I can get the barrel off for boring/plating. |

We have a spec, its just the camshaft undecision on my behalf..
+2 inlet valves Std Exhaust valves And a throttle body........ Man with little fingers to move rev limiter, hopefully. |
I hope my bike sounds like this......

i think it will be nearer this tho....(this really is basically the same engine in yours and my bike....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=223ZrACY0FQ ..those Tourance tyres working really hard on a XTR...... |
And I am after this level of care for my new engine...
|
a nice looking engine...
http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...mad/engine.jpg
They are getting 68-70hp out of a 686cc on carbs.....thats with a lumpy cam..... |
This is one of the engine-builders bikes.....
...run by a team...the bike is a Yamaha SZR660, Bought off ebay for 450 as a non-runner, and was turned into a racer. This was not their best weekend tho'.....

Here is some other info for you.
Weights stated below include piston, rings, clips, and wrist pin. Stock piston Raptor 700 = 537.2 grams[/font] JE 12.5:1 102mm = 487.7 grams JE 12:1 105.5mm = 506.8 grams JE 12:1 105mm = 506.8 grams CP 11:1 102mm = 524.9 grams CP 12:1 105mm = 534.9 grams Wiseco 11:1 103mm = 535.4 grams Wisco 14:1 102mm RE = 545 grams If you can add the XT's standard piston weight to my list. |
i think JE's are supposed to be pretty light, but you cant lighten the generator....
|
Quote:
|
:hiding:its got a generator, with timing marks....how can you lighten that? I can't find a flywheel on a XT, i've looked on the parts catalogue.?
|
Doner engine found!!
A complete unit, picking it up tomorrow.....
I am probably only going to use the top half of it..barrel, head, cam (for re-profiling), throttle body etc. I already have a spare barrel, but now I'll have two! http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1283551209 |
Why don't you modify the motor you just bout & keep you XT660 motor a side, that's what I would do.
|
Quote:
Kev, it makes sense to go with your suggestion... |
Another thing to look into with regards to throttle bodies...are they ALL 44mm......??? I THOUGHT I had seen 45mm on somewhere...with other manufacturers using the engine, this MAY be correct, but don't quote me!
