Touratech

Phoned them yesterday with an order for handguards
went something like this
Q. have you got handguards for the tenere
A. yes
Q. in stock?
A. yes, they'll go out tomorrow

cool all ordered, got e-mail from them today "out of stock"

What the F$&! is wrong with these people???

TT are famous for that! Thats why I dont order from them unless I really need to

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 23-06-10 08:36

Mostly they are bad, but not always

I ordered some Panniers last year, they told me 2 months waiting, after 6 weeks they were on the bike.

I generally look for TT stuff on Ebay, you'd be surprised how much of the GS stuff you can do minor mods on to make it fit....

They have said 7-10 days, we will see.....................
I don't understand why they don't show the item out of stock when you place the order online?
I suppose it will all shown out of stock then!!!!!

I'm not going to defend them (TT), because I think if you have an on-line system then it should be fit for purpose.

However, and this is where it gets a bit geeky, in order to protect your systems from the outside, web stuff is normally placed in a DMZ, or hosted elswhere. The problem with this is that it becomes technically difficult (for lots, but not all) and costly to provide a secure link between the DMZ (and the outside world) and the inside systems.

Assuming this link is established (and lots do) then you have to ensure that the companies stock controll, order procesing, despatch and purchasing systems are all nicely working on the same data, you then need to provide the data in a way that the web systems can understand.

You then have to get this data into your web systems in the DMZ. There are many ways of doing this, mirrored servers, timed data transfer etc but they all have a delay factor. To allow your web systems full access to your live data is a huge risk, and also costly to do safely.

So while TT have high prices, none of the profit it seams is going into their online shopping systems. When these people have very low stock levels, or Just-in-time, it just makes the whole thing worse!

In short, check what you want on-line, then ring them to ask about stock and delivery. It's not just TT, lots of places have these issues, neither is it an excuse for bad service.

I did ring them that's the annoying part of it!

3 months and still running around without chain guard

Touratech grrrrrrrr, don't get me started....

By complete fluke I flicked a stick up and broke my original yamaha chain guard (back in March). So I had a bit of a look see on the net and saw this flash alloy TT one and I thought mmmmm that looks stronger than the plastic one.

I paid the manditory deposit to Touratech Australia and waited for it to arrive, so I waited and waited and waited and waited....

Guess what I am still waiting.

No word from TT Australia other than it didn't arrive in the monthly shipment.

Oh yes I am very impressed with Touratech. I am just about to leave so I am going sans guard.

mudmatt 24-06-10 18:45
