Installing a Power Commander

I have made a step by step installation instructions for fitting a PCIII to a XTX/XTR, you can use these instructions for installing a PCV as well, except for the software program which is different.

These instructions can be also used as a guide for fitting a PCIII or PCV to a Tenere, the connections will be the same but the Power Commander is fitted in a different place. If someone can take a photo of their Power commander fitted to their XTZ I will add them to these notes.

1/ Remove the ignition key.
2/ You need to remove the fuel tank.
3/ Remove both frame side covers.

To disconnect the fuel pipe from the fuel tank you need to side the fuel pipe lock outwards, the squeeze either side of the blue buttons the gently full the pipe off.

Install the PCIII software to your Windows PC

Here are the links for the PCIII & PCV software; you need to install this software before you can see any of the fuel maps

PCIII Software Click FREE USER
http://rapidshare.com/files/349054944/PC3Usb_3.2.1_Setup.exe

I made my own 240V to 9V power supply to power up the PCIII fitted to my bike, the 9V batterys do not last long. You will need to get a ac/dc adaptor to suite your country, the important values are 9 Volts @ 150MA out put.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/2-41.jpg

Plug in the USB cable between the Windows PC & the PCIII, then connect the power supply to the PCIII on the bike & wait for the hardware to be installed.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...x/DSCF3165.jpg

Once the Power Commander Windows software is all installed you will have the PCIII software screen on your desk top, click on set throttle position. The software should have come on a CD disc with your Power Commander or go to Dynojet's site & install the latest Windows software.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/AA-3.jpg

With the key on, open the throttle slowly to full throttle then back to the stop position, you should see the numbers rising & falling in the % Throttle screen through this procedure. Then click OK to save.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/cc-2.jpg

Now you want to load a fuel map, they can be downloaded from the ASK Kev section where we have over 50 different custom made fuel maps or from a few Dynojet directly. Save them to a folder on your Desk Top

Now click on Open Map file. Navigate to the saved fuel maps & click on the fuel map you want.

You will now have a fuel map displayed in front of you. You now need to send it to the PCIII on your bike. Click send map,you will be prompted when it has gone through OK.

You are all set to go, unplug the USB & power supply & go enjoy your bike.

PCV

PCV software http://www.powercommander.com/downloads/shared_software/Complete_Power_Commander_CD_122209.zip

The PCV software is slightly differnet as you can see, the basic princables are the same for getting a fuel map & sending it to the PCV on the bike.

Remember to always set the basic calibration when installing a new PCV or when you have made adjustments to the idle or TPS.

The PCV is able to convert PCIII to PCV fuel maps with a import function.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/1-44.jpg

Same as the PCIII, click Open Map.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/2-42.jpg

Choose a map from you map folder & click open.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/3-34.jpg

Then send the map the PCV.

Slight issue with the instructions.

Sorry to correct you (of all people), but your instructions are a bit off. The fuel tank does not come off if you remove those two bolts you have pointed out. One needs to remove the one bolt above it on that metal plate to remove the fuel tank.

Also, not really a correction but a tip, there really is no need to remove the fuel lines or the sensor wires, it's enough to remove move the fuel tank up a bit, remove the plastic piece in front of it (outside) and just keep the tank up while installing the connectors.

On the 4th picture you mention to remove both the elec connectors from the fuel pump but only the white connector is marked with the red arrows!
Do i have to unplug both white and the green connectors?
Also after that,do i have to connect something back in place where the elec connectors were plugged in?
Are the instructions for PCIII same with PCV?I'm fitting a PCV

[QUOTE=anti_hero82;211799]On the 4th picture you mention to remove both the elec connectors from the fuel pump but only the white connector is marked with the red arrows! You remove both connector white & green electrical connectors using the same procedure as shown on the white connector photo
Do i have to unplug both white and the green connectors? Yes you have to otherwise the tank won't come off
Also after that,do i have to connect something back in place where the elec connectors were plugged in? You need to remove the fuel line, slide the black lock as shown in the photo, pinch the two blue tabs & slowly pull the fuel line off the pump.
Are the instructions for PCIII same with PCV? What version PCV are you fitting there are 2 versions with the latest one having an extra connector to the crankshaft pickup?

anti_hero82 02-07-15 01:59

My PCV version is the latest one with the CPS connectors, and O2 optimizer.
Also the manual says that PCV will come configured for throttle position, speed and gear position,so i guess i have to skip the throttle position step right?
Do you suggest to adjust anything else?
Right now my xtx TPS and CO1 values are stock
