will not do damage but it is a waist of money, with the original 660 engine compression 95 ron is enough.
There is also a theory that most people are using the 95ron at the gas station so it is more fresh then the more expensive fuels, but as said it is only a theory. |

If You are using Your bike as a taxi, there is a difference how much 98/99 costs compared to 95...:BaseballHat_LNY2EG: I think if Your towns 98oct runs out of date maybe You should think about moving closer to civilication?:smileinbox: |

I am surprised that in the era of the internet people still don't know what is the meaning of octane. |

I like to think that the higher the octane is the "safer" the fuel is to My engine in all driving conditions. |
All the comments are good.
The XT660 engine only needs 95 RON according to the spec so this is all you need. If it had knock sensor, then the engine management would optimise the ignition timing for the grade of fuel you use; which in the case of 99 RON, it could be beneficial. However there is a twist..... In the last 10 years or so, fuel companies who have started producing high octane fuel (think shell & BP), have been putting special additives in to improve engine running & clean at the same time. So you are not only buying a higher octane but also a chemically more advanced fuel. So you may not be wasting your money when you buy premium fuel for your XT. The best bet is to try it yourself. Run 4 tankfulls of your specific fuel & see what you get |

I had been running my 07 XTX on RON 91 for quite a long time without the bike pinging. I tried my new one yesterday on RON 91 & it ran quite fine no problems.
My 04 XTX did not like RON91 fuel it used to ping at low rpms. I did once mention that the timing was adjusted by the factory on 07 ECU's>. |
