One have to look past the cost of the PCIII or 5.
I am convinced that fitting powercommander with a good map will actually save you money in the long run. Fuel consumption is better, plus, if you run your bike lean, it might run for a long time, but the motor will run hotter than normal and might overheat and break down one hot day. How much will repairing the motor cost. The Powercommander also gives you a nice gain in performance and throttle response and drivability is much improved. Guys spend lots of cash on aftermarket pipes and so forth, yet the DNA stg 2 and powercommander by far produces more power than the aftermarket exhaust alone and is actually cheaper than most aftermarket pipes. So, if you can, save up for a powercommander and get so much more out of your bike. |
I agree with Freez. I have an 06 XTR with the 01 ecu. I fitted a Powercommander III and K&N/DNA filter with drilled airbox.
The bike runs smoothly and pulls very strongly through the gears. I also fitted a tachometer and notice it does gets lumpy running under 2500rpm, but it is only a single after all. Once at or above 2500 it really flies. I think this combo gives the most improvement for the least money. Most recently I fitted Akrapovics - a fraction of the weight and acceleration seems faster again, although the improvement is not a huge as the price of the cans. |
Cheers Guys, once Christmas is out of the way I'll be looking to purchase a powercommander. Is there a 5 available for the 06 XT660R, I know they list a III.
Oh, and K&N or DNA whats best? I have a K&N on my busa and a conical clamp on K&N on my XT500 supermoto and am well impressed however most people on here seem to go for the DNA. Cheers Logan |
Yes there is a PCV for the 2006 and the best filters are the DNA ones. Look here:

06 Xt660x
I am looking to buy a DNA Air filter and a PC3 to improve the jerkiness of my bike. My bike is an 06 XT660x. I was on the Power Commander website and they list a PC3 for the 04-07 xt 660 R but they don't mention the X, i believe it must fit my bike ??
I wouldn't want to change my bike exhausts at the moment, I hope the jerkiness will go even though i won't change the exhausts . Any help would be appreciated ?? |

The XTR & XTX run the same Power commander. The best thing to do is get a custom made fuel map for bike on a dyno with a PCIII. This should make your bike much smoother. |
Quick question, is it advisable to run a stage 1 DNA filter on it's own or for that matter with a stage 2 DNA filter with a standardish bike eg snorkel out and CO mode adjusted?
I'd have thought that it would run too lean with just the filters in and no adjustment to the fueling to match. Cheers Logan |
well, yes you can run the stage 1 and 2 without fitting a fuelling device and there aren't any known problems that have occured with running a bike like this.
However, a fuelling device is recommended when running them. |
