I like that new cloth bodywork must be tougher than plastic :)

This bike looks a long way off I wouldnt get too excited just yet

tripletom 21-10-09 14:45

Boo for concepts!
Yay for tubeless rims!

edit to add-

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload...r_Tenere_2.jpg

Oooh a shaftie. Fingers crossed for diesel...

JMo 21-10-09 15:46

Hmmmm... looks like they've solved the issue of crankcase paint flaking...

Although is that the reg/rec I spy in direct firing line from the rear wheel?!

Looks a great concept though - what a showstopper! - in fact I might have to wrap my bike up in a blanket too...

xxx

NickW909 21-10-09 15:57

Hmmmmmm, errr, what's the point in that??

Why unveil a new bike when they don't even have a complete example?

Don't make sense to me, sorry.

Nick.

JMo 21-10-09 16:06

I know what you mean Nick, but it's a show-piece - something to get people talking - I reckon it's done a good job!

(and far better than yet another bug-eyed R1 (yawn)... or worse the fuggly nose fairing for the MT01 - a cafe racer that is not!)

Any new model is welcome, it was about time, now that Yamaha has tested the waters and found that the Tenere 660 has been so widely welcomed and popular, that they started competing at the higher level of the 900cc-1200cc clasess to finally put BMW and Honda's noses out of joint.

I know for a fact that when SuperTenere goes from being a concept to a real bike we will be here ready to welcome the new owners-brothers with open arms into the community, just as we did/anticipated the same for you XT660Z peeps when they were announced 3 years ago.

Awwwww,,,, feeling the love on the forum tonight...:glasses2:

cotthem 21-10-09 19:08

I hope its gonna be a ktm adventure killer instead of a GS-killer, with 18 inch rearwheel and upsd-fork and lots of torque and not to expensive, not to heavy, not to.....

something more like this instead of the creepy demonstration bike

Hope so too, but the drive shaft tells another story..:sad11:

josephau 21-10-09 20:37

Between 11k and 12k I reckon. If under 10 it would be cheap, but with those tech, unlikely.

The marketing blurb makes me laugh, it sounds like a combo of Lord of the Rings and Star Trek. Frodo and Sam would have an easier time if they ride the Super Ten.

Stinky Pete 21-10-09 21:36

Have a look at this.
1200cc is a big old lump!

maxwell123455 21-10-09 21:47

What the fush is that. Come on yamaha someones being paid to make and market this which could have money spent else where and all it is.......is what

a pile of rags and some bike bits thrown in:sad9:. I think the report would say could do better.

I never understood the point of a concept bike/car, yes show us a picture or 1 off COMPLETE car/bike that could be built with no stupid things and then see what people say.

Eg not picking on any but the Suzuki B king yes at first the supercharger was crazy so you could have guessed that wasnt going to be on it but those exhausts come on what a change from the concept.

colros 21-10-09 21:51

If its the new Pari Dakar bike it will be a 450cc.:064:

A vee twin with 2 wheel drive would be nice. :crowded:

b8ppj 21-10-09 22:02

Did someone mention a BMW GS ?????

Always makes me laugh

Now that would be truely innovative! Perhaps a parallel twin though to keep it more compact?

Hmmmm...

xxx

Molgan 21-10-09 22:28

The piping on the cloth bike clearly shows it's a parallel twin. Still no confirmation that the 1200cc/130hp figures are coming from Yamaha what I can see?

josephau 21-10-09 22:41

Sorry in advance for hijacking, but Jenny, aren't you supposed to be, ahem, racing tomorrow? I hope this whole Super Ten subject isn't going to distract you :seasaw:

Hee hee - just got back in from a meal out with the other riders on Patsy's team...

It will be the last proper tucker we get for a while I imagine!

Got to get my head down now - it all starts tomorrow morning!

Toot toot!

Jenny xx

ps. yes, really liking that new super ten' concept... Ohlins 2WD would really top it off!

tripletom 22-10-09 10:24

I think Ohlins are back to owning the 2wd tech now as well, so I'm not sure we'd see a Yam with it on.

DickyC 22-10-09 10:49

The photos look very like the thing my son made with his mechano the other month. It went missing! However later turned up wrapped up in some of my daughters dolls clothes. It looked even more like the photo then.

With others really, still not enough to actually see. Concepts are all very well . . .

I read on one of the many snippets here and there that it will be 2011 before it hits the road, then you'll need another 12 months before the aftermarket catches up.

Personally, I thing the Tenere and Super Tenere will be poles apart, the single appealing to the more adventurous, and the S10 aimed at reducing the BMUU share of the market. Not like the bikes of the 90's

They are just trying to gauge if there is enough interest in this to take it into design, that what I think.

uncle ricky 22-10-09 16:55

It will be like comparing the BMW 650 Single to the GS1200 Adventure, aimed at too different markets

The 660 will still be going strong and I don't think that it will be a replacement

tripletom 22-10-09 17:28

I concur, I'll start saving my pennies though as it would be nice to have one to take the g/f out on.

Skunkmoto 23-10-09 13:17

Judging by the colour scheme it will be built in Glasgow in time to enter the Peebles - Dalkieth Rally Raid 2010.

CaptMoto 23-10-09 13:20

:D

vitsiozo 23-10-09 14:38

At last, my two favourite bikes, the Tenere and the TDM getting fused into one ...

I personally like the concept and if the final design sticks to the general lines and form factor they show here (headlight is ace) then this will look much better than either GS or KTM adventure. And if it stands somewhere in the middle between the two in terms of touring and off road abilities, then I think we will have a winner. Let's wait and see....

Peatbog 24-10-09 01:21

I saw the concept and my first, and current thought, was 'jesus thats horrible'.

But having said that i had the same thought about the 'Ten for the first 3 months too - now i love mine to bits and plan to buried with/on it.

Pete

josephau 24-10-09 22:17

I loved the Ten based on the photo only 6 months before it was available. Then was annoyed by the vib/shaking for over a year until it's finally resolved after 18k km. And now the bike s opening up even more and smoothest ever, I love it even more. As to the Super Ten, weight, offroad agility, and tank range would be my judge to see if it's worth the name. If the look stays relatively the same as the clothed concept, it has passed my test ;)

mkp 25-10-09 00:50

In Chile, the XT660Z was introduced in July, this year, only 12 units arrived, all sold very quick @ US$15,000.
Now the local importer announces a new Super Tenere 1200cc , arriving in 2010 ?????????

dallas 26-10-09 18:11

Here's a piccie of the engine of the new coming Super Tenere, send to me by my dealer. Look and judge!
Greetz, Hans.

NickW909 26-10-09 18:56

So it looks like they are using the TDM engine then???

Nick.

So what size engine did he say it was?
If its the TDM engine its obviously not 1200cc

dallas 26-10-09 21:53

Nope, no further info. When I got some more info, I'll post them here(although this a twin, which isn't the main object of this great site!).
Greetz, Hans.
