Thanks for confirming that Nick...
Jiauka - yes, the plug is there (along with the other two for the alarm), but mine were buried right at the bottom under the loom and relays as Nick says... There is enough length in the loom to reposition them for easier access... although I did this myself after the service, looks like they weren't touched before. Grrr... I'll get back onto the dealer tomorrow regarding that tool part number - bet they don't even have one yet... xxx |
Thanks a lot Nick & JMo, I will find the plug tomorrow.
BTW, I have tested the FZ6 method to access the diag mode w/o success, on the latest FZ6 you need to disconnect the fuel pump in order to access the diag mode. On the ten. there are a few harness connector just behind the rear break reservoir, the 2 pins one is the fuel pump one. In short the modern FZ method didn't work for me :(, but you are wellcome to try it. have fun, j. |
jiauka, by the way your status as supporter has already been activated, I know you asked Kev about this but I upgraded you immediately as you paid and I have also sent you a PM with instructions, in case you haven't received it I can pass it to you again.
But yes check out the row of yellow helmets you have by your username, you're in the club! and thanks |
Thanks Captmoto for your fast reply.

Hi:
It looks like the Z uses a K-LINE bus for the diagnostics (thanks Kev!!!), I will make a simple K-Line to SERIAL interface and snipper, then I will try to borrow an original diag tool. have fun, j. |

I am sure the Yamaha scan tool could be reproduce for a fraction of the quoted price. Most of the Yamaha's use a single K line, a analog signal not Can Bus to the scan tool, if it was a Can Bus signal there should be two data wires, unless they are using Lin bus which runs on a single wire. If the XTZ has a K line like most Yamaha's it will very easy to reproduce the scan tool. I would need a XTZ & scan tool to see the data protocol. As I said I am sure we could knock up a cheaper version scan tool. |

Out of interest, I spoke to Yamaha UK's aftersales bods today regarding the diagnostic tool (seems my 'local' dealer doesn't have one, and isn't prepared to buy one, so I have to go to another dealer to run a diagnostic check?!)
Anyway, turns out they are 80 retail, less to dealers... I'm tempted to get myself one for the Heroes-Legend this year, not that I hope to need it... That said, I took the Ten' out for a run yesterday and it felt distinctly 'wooly' and rough - it was perfect all last week (600 miles to Newcastle and back) so I'm wondering what it is? - could just be crappy fuel? If it was a carbed bike I'd say there was a problem with the mixture... which is why I want to run a diagnostic test and see if any of the EFi sensors are malfunctioning... xxx |
i had this poor running motor feeling and realised i put 97 oct super unleaded in.
found that it doesnt like it. next tank 95 and running sweet as a nut again. all the best in the dakar trip and will be on the look out for you. |
