Raising Links for the XT660R.

Been shown some but they were 99 euros, nearly a hundred quid for crying out loud:017:
Anyway, need to raise my XT up a bit if i'm going to keep it. Its to low for what i want it for and as im 6 foot 6 aswell its my first job to sort on the bike.
Anyone know where i can get some that aint gonna cost a fortune?
Any help would be appreciated.:toothy2:

Can some tell me or show me the R with an without the links... does it make it taller in the bend of the knees... does it mess up the handling... does it look good.??? anhow hard is it to fit them....cheers

I run XTR links on my XTX, by using X links on your R it will raise your R by 2.5cmm John. You will have to match the front by raising the forks 2.5cm, this can be done with my spacers fitted into the front forks. It will effect the handing, the higher the center of gravity the worse the handling for fast cornering, but far better for off road riding with greater ground clearance.

That's why I have lowered my XTX, lower center of gravity better corner speed.

I've changed to X shock and links and fork spacers (28mm)

Didn't realy like it, too wobbly in city traffic ,as Kev allready explained
Changed back to the R links and left the X shock and fork spacers in.
Perfect set-up for me now.

i bought a set of links off ebay that where meant to be off and X, so them and they are the same as my R links, ******..... gonna make my own i think, easier that way.

when you drop the forks Kev, how did you do it? Just losen the clamps and measure an inch from the top of the fork cap to the top yoke?

Pretty much yea.

Ive had a set of raiser links on my R now for about 6 months now (only used them before for off roading).

As for the seat peg position no this doesnt change but it does tilt your body forward slightly putting a bit more pressure on your wrists. I found this good as my rear shock was starting to sag a bit when fat me got on it!!!

As for the handleing ive noticed its not as stable at the higher speeds but still stable as a house at 80mph. On the slower speed stuff it likes to flick in and out of bends alot better which i found with the standard links it resisted alot and didnt want to turn once on a line. Saying that i could get the pegs down with the standard links on very easy so maybe im pushing the R too much, its so fun though:luuurve:

Only down side ive found at the moment is adjusting the chain is a ****** as when the swing arm sits so much lower you have to leave the chain slacker as once the suspensions compressed a bit the chain tightens up alot more than standard.

That as you dont use the chicken strips on the side of the tyres as much so your wearing the central part of the tyres alot more.

You got it, just remmember I also run progressive front fork springs, makes a big difference to the XTX's handling, add that to a lower center of gravity & it feels so much better for my style of ridding.

It may not sound that much, but the 85mm spacers lifted the back on my "R"
a couple of inches.

afk40 17-09-10 19:14

well I measured my links,,an am sure i bought them from JaseXT.. centre to centre an the are 70mm ?????????????????

maxwell123455 17-09-10 20:33

The standard R links i have for my 06 are 90mm C/C

My raiser links (cant remember were i got them from) are 75mm C/C

From what i can remember when i first put them on i measured that is raises from the rear wheel spindle to a frame reference point about 2 and a bit inchs, and at the seat around 2 inchs give or take a few mill:icon_burnout[1]:
