Check Your Fuel Filter!

some good news,Yamaha are going 2 repaint my engine and supply new covers, oil feeder pipes and all the other bits.bad news is it's going 2 take 3 weeks.and now on 2 the running problems.i'm a time served mechanic so i thought i'd have a look at the bike.this is what i've found.some kind of silt in the tank,it's found its way through the filter and the fuel lines 2 the single injector.2 sort the problem i reconnected the injector, spun the engine while blowing compressed air back through it.then all the lines and cleaned the pump.THE FILTER IS NOT UP 2 THE JOB,so i cut it open, blew it out and superglued it back 2gether.refitted everything and its bloody perfect now.starts and runs lovely.12 years well spent as a grease monkey(mechanic):-)

Ride out

Got a new job, money's ****.5 an hour less but it's keeping the wolf from the door,so to speak.
Em's engine has just packed up,so it's an engine out next week.I have just been given a VW transporter which was not running.New heater plugs and new seals in the pump and bingo.Sorted.It's in really good nick.
I'll get some money sorted out and have to come up for a weekend.

I was up brekfa last weekend ,there was a new tenere, ktm and something else there.Didn't have time to stop as we were on our way back with the dogs in the van.
When you are all going out next time, give me a shout and i'll try and make it.
Hows the foot?

Sounds good that you got this problem sorted. Do you do much off roading? Just this might have caused the silt, either that or all year round riding with all that silt/salt they put on the road

fuel filter

i've not been off roading on the bike.the silt has come from the petrol from some petrol stations, dont know which 1, but i'll be very carefull where i fill up.i'm putting another fuel filter in line before the injector as the one fitted is obviously not up 2 the job.

Second that, ive had the tank off once or twice to do electrical stuff but never really noticed any inline fuel filters.

fuel filter

i'll take some pics of the job in hand and upload them when i'm at my sisters.the laptop is still ******ed and i'm using my nokia n95 8gb phone 2 send replys.the fuel filter is in the fuel pump. Be carefull if you're not handy with the spanners,as all the components of the pump are plastic and it's an internal pump, filter system.sitting in petrol makes them quite brittle so be carefull.a soak in hot water 4 ten mins is a safe way 2 do it.i'm fitting a 5 micron filter on sat if they have it in,and i'll take pics from the beginning 2 the end of the job just in case anyone else gets a tank of crap.its an easy job if you have the tools 4 it.once done,u can thrash the crap out of her.just 2 make sure she's running ok.A WORD OF WARNING,if she's not getting enough juice because of the blockage, that means the engine is now running lean and u will end up melting something.be it valves or piston.:-( my header pipes always glow red hot if u just sit and rev.all my 4 stroke singles have done it.info shared, job done.

If you have dirty fuel you need to try one of these.
