Top speed

Was very surprised at the results of recent rear sprocket change. With original 45 rear my top speed was 159klms, that’s with tall screen and top box. Now with a 48 rear sprocket it hits 176klm .In fact I think it may even manage to make it to 180 but I wasn’t prepared to hold it at full throttle for too long as it kind of wobbles around a bit.
So, I was expecting a lower top speed, but, It’s not so, quite a surprise!

Have you got a speedo healer? Cause if you dont the speedo will be reading out incorrect values, and with a larger rear sprocket you will be being given postive speed values, ie speedo says 40mph, where you probably only doing 35mph!!!!

same idea if you put a smaller front sprocket on, means you need more turns of the front sprocket to turn once at the rear.

If you take a look at this utility from Ranni - it will give you an idea of the speed differences with various gearing ratios.

No actually I haven’t got a speedo healer. After reading your replys I feel like a bit of a goose. I don’t know how many times I’ve read the threads on the Speedo healer I can’t believe I didn’t realise that’s whats going on, how embarrassing. I must have just got excited today when looked down and saw a 176. Thanks Maxwell/Montacio

I get 184-185 km/h with 14 front sprocket. I don't have speedo healer either, so it goes less actually. I need to check with GPS the real value. But with my current setup, I think this bike can go 200 km/h with different ratios...

It will be interesting to see what your GPS reads. If you could post the results when you have them, that would be great.

riding with my GPS one day I did up to 170 on the clock while the GPS read 160km/h. My top speed in general has been 181 on the clock (standard sprokets always) so I guess my real top speed is about 168-170km/h :026:

I saw 173kmph the other day there on a 06 wi 78k klicks on it

I have been fast too

But I must be getting old because over about 130km/h I get scared and close my eyes...
