Then this mod is for you, the sizes are 30mm in length, width is 38mm & inside diameter is 20mm

The mod has made a great deal of difference to the feel of my bike, it's a lot more stable on cornering (no more vague weave / wobble), and the front end doesn't dive as much as it used to under braking. To be totally honest it does still feel a little soft to me under braking, but I always used to have my YZ front ends very very hard even in the dirt, and my last bike was a GS1150R, and then front end on them are well known not to dive under brakeing due to the suspension arrangment.

In summary and excellent in-expensive mod, that makes a lot of difference to the bike handling.
I would well recommend this to anybody who feels their front end is soggy :WellDone_OROQR1: Big appluase to Kev for making this available to everybody.

Thanks for the positive feed back, I would also recommend you change the fork oil to 15w as this also make a big difference.

just one question please kev. your spacers and oil height. same quantity of oil as manual says or we have to compensate for bigger air gap?

Standard oil height if you weigh under 100kgs, if you are over 100kgs then add 10ml more oil.

Not necessary to use Alloy, I got them made out of Alloy so they last for ever.

GregorL 22-05-10 10:53

Thanx Kev!!

zaburtante 26-05-10 16:03

Hello every one,
I talk with my friend to made fork spacers 35mm from alloy
last week I put that my bike...you are my man Kev you know this job very well, now my bike like a real supermoto, first chance is braking distance and then even in slow corners, very stable, no vibration.in high speed ( windy 160-170)and hard corners no shaking on handlebar:yahoo: small part but big different.I drem when I change fork oil with 15w it will be better.
Thank you my friend Kev,

hypoboang 28-11-11 13:21

thanks for the great mod kev.
Ill knock some up in the next few days for the R and look forward to better braking with less dive!

cheers bro!

Kev 28-11-11 22:13

No worries.

I recieved this mod really fast by mail. (nicely packed in a little box)
Easy to fit, I was ready in 30 minutes.

Driving: the spacers has made a great difference to the feel of the bike.
More stable on cornering, more feetback from the front end. The steering is sharper and fleels more stable/stiff.It is easier to lean the bike now. A better handling under braking (not diving excessively while breaking)

great mod... :D

Kev 12-08-13 05:12

Thanks for your feedback.

I have a few spacers left & that will be the end of the mod I don't intend to get anymore spacers made.

Dear All, I honestly think that this fellow Kev is a rare genius. He REALLY knows his stuff and this small suspension mod is just one example. I fitted it to my XTX and the handling was totally transformed, no question, with less dive and much improved stability in straight line and in corners. Bike suspension is something of a complex subject as I have discovered both on track and off road bikes, so for him to come up with something so cheap and simple AND to give the dimensions so that you can make you own, well hats off boys Kev is the King!!! Thanks!!!

Kev 13-08-13 02:11

Kind words Simon but far from a genius, as my wife would say you just can't leave things alone you always have to try & make things better, modifying bikes is addictive & I have the addiction big time.

Moyston 26-10-13 14:27

thumbs up..got them fitted today..easy..great job !

J_maker 27-10-13 13:53

All of you fellow XTers that have -or willing to fit- Kev's fork spacers, there is no other comment than... "excellent work Kev!"
I have had these on my 07 XTX since the first month and I go on riding safe for the last 7 years with no need to actually purchase aftermarket fork springs.
A big thanks to our "restless" Kev that hasn't stop trying for the best of our bikes all these years. :blob3:

One of the first mods I did to my XTX was the fork spacers. I used the measurements that Kev suggests at the first post 30mm in length, width is 38mm & inside diameter is 20mm, and replaced the oil with SAE 10. The first thing that I noticed was that the bike looked to be much taller at the front, and unless you climbed on the fuel tank, there was no way to get the bike level while riding. Then I adjusted the rear preload (one click before MAX), expecting to rise the rear end, and move my weight(and the bike's) forward but that just made the bike taller at both ends. Frustrated I lowered the front end by 1 cm and the bike looks and feels balanced with qood cornering performance but I still feel that the front is higher that what it should be, not to mention that the bike is still very tall (high sag on both ends). My height is 1.85 and I cant touch both my feet down (or even one without tilting the bike). I have no problem with the rear shock and since I mainly ride solo or with a light passenger, I should lessen the rear preload by one or two clicks. I also think that the motorcycle very tall for fast riding.
I have good experience with suspension setup but I am frustrated with the XTX because you cant actually adjust anything.

So how low should someone drop the front, to get the bike close to its original geometry?

Course you can... just just need new bits :)

Ergoth 19-02-14 09:50

OR a new bike. Nah, I like that the XTX is better than what the sum of its part would suggest.

nethen 03-03-14 20:24

Were can i buy some? I fancy some Ohlin springs for the front too, do u know anywhere uk to buy em, cheeeeeaaap :)

They can be bought off the forums main page, I still have a few sets left. http://www.xt660.com/site/

SimonRoma 04-03-14 10:48

I fitted the spacers to my XTX and I love the feel!! It makes the bike much more rideable as it reduces the pogo stick sensations. But I use my bike only on the road of course and mainly in the city, so this may not be ideal for you XTR users......

Front Fork Spacers

Just ordered a set of these.
On my second XT660R and thats always been my biggest bug-bare, the soft front end.
Cant wait to get them fitted, hope the postal service from Aus to UK is not too slow.

Eddiw 24-03-14 20:54

Kev 25-03-14 10:38

I made here in Brazil a set of spacers according Kevs spec. It was installed and the result was amazing. My bike is a XT 660R 2012.

Access to site

I am interested in the fork spacer mod but the links to the website are not working? A technical issue or am I being a biff?

Lazer 12-06-17 10:30

Are these still available anywhere?

Cheers

Kev 12-06-17 12:59

Not produced of sold any spacers since 2014.

You can make your own: http://www.xt660.com/showpost.php?p=202155&postcount=49

Nice input Kev, thats a reasonable low cost mod. I also try in other bikes to raise a bit the oil level, just a bit no more than 25-30 cc wich is aprox 20mm level. Thats provide an extra stiff force on the last travel of the forks. The suspension become stiff when is almost topped down. It has no efect on the fist 2/3 of the travel. But you have to be carefull do not overfil the legs or you'll blow out your seals soon.

Just an input...nice mod KEV

Exactly what was the extra amount ml of oil you added to each leg after fitting the Spacers?
Thanks Steve'O

I have not sold any spacers since 2014, in the end the mod died off with no sales.

I never added any extra oil to the fork legs, the person who said that was mentioning you could add oil instead of the spacers.
