Tell me Adam, apart from the stunning looks, do the Marchesini weight less than the OEM? And did you notice any improvement in road handling, stability and even speed? (lighter wheels = more mph)
Also are you running tubeless tyres which also mean less weight without the tube? |
Capt, i never actually weighed them but there was a noticeable difference. Overall, the bike is more eager to turn in than before but the speed wobble is more noticeable. I'm playing around with suspension geometry and tyre pressures to try and improve this. I haven't noticed a difference in top speed but unlike most, I gear my bike up (less teeth on the back) to improve top speed and cruising.
And having the wheels does mean I now run without tubes, this has thrown another question forward, should I still run std tyre pressues as no advice from Marchesini. I'm still playing with this. |
The general comments from manufacturers are that without the tube rubbing against your inner tyre casings thus producing extra heat and energy you should be able to achieve greater grip and better rolling resistance at lower pressures and that alone will be a great improvement on your high speed weaving issue, try anything from 29psi down and report back. Cheers

Thanks Capt, I'd been going the other way as my sportsbike runs higher tyre pressures. I'd been playing with 32psi on the front and 34 on the back. Will try this though.

Is it 5.00 mm to wide for the back wheel?A 160-60 17 tire will feet correct?
|
I've got 4.25 (which is std fit) but i'm told the optimium size for a 160 tyre is 4.5. I wanted the 4.5 but they sent the 4.25. My concern about going bigger than 4.5 would be chain clearance but they do list bigger sizes.
