Worth checking

I walked past the bike today and noticed something about the clutch lever that didn't look right - when i checked it the chromed lever pivot bolt came out in my hand.

I'm not sure whether it's just vibrated loose or whether its missing a nut - the bolt does screw into the lower half of the lever but there's enough thread sticks through underneath that i wondered if i was missing a locking nut. If theres enough space i'll put a locking nut on anyway as when i think about it if the lever drags the pivot bolt when pulling in the lever it will gradually unwind the bolt completely - like mine seems to have done.

I did my 500ish mile trip round scotland on monday and then 'nipped' down to Donington and back last night - another 360 miles. if i'd lost the bolt on either of those trips it'd have been a large pain in the ass, so i thought i'd mention it so that you folks can check yours and maybe avoid a large pain in the ass....

Pete.

EDIT- doh, this was meant to be loose in the tech section not in mods, admin please feel free to move.

Hi Pete Just checked mine and it has a nylon lock nut on it.

I'd be inclined to get the bike taken over to the dealers, Nylock's don't come off like that for no reason (possibly it wasn't there start with?), on such a new bike this should have been picked up at PDI, or 600mls either way I'd be wonerding what else had been missed and looking to the dealer for some, 'er, 'advice' either way I'd get the dealer to replace it under warrenty, just in case.......

Mmmm, thanks for the advice, i've wondered all of the above too - i'll pop a nut on it for now and give the bike a check over too. I'll be mentioning it when the bike goes for it's 6000 mile service, along with my 'squeals when the engine's hot' starter motor and ridiculously stiff wing mirrors (anyone else got either of those?) but i use a dealer near blackpool so unless i'm down there on the bike (possible) it'll be June before i'm in there.

Pete.

Is there a reason? It's a good hike from Newcastle to Blackpool, so Amble is going to add even more time!

If you are looking for a dealer closer to hand J&L in Carlisle are very good, top guys and they don't give you any shi, er, poo.....

Err, a few reasons really - i got peed of with the dealer closest to me, and i'm a stubborn barsteward. i'm in Fleetwood quite regularly as i have a few mates there, more regularly than Newcastle, or anywhere south or east of there. I happened to be in Fleetwood when i made the decision to swap my Fazer for the XTR and had a bit of time to spare, i've been going there since.

carlisle admittedly is quite close, so i'll remember the recommendation - thanks.
