I would say you have most of it sorted, but how about putting a taller screen on to stop the wind blast, and a set of hand guards of some sort to keep the worst of the weather away from your hands, (i know you going in summer but it still rains in europe in summer)

Part from this maybe a comfier seat or a seat pad like an air hawk, or a home made type one like i made using a hiking blow up camping seat, just made a bag like the airhawk uses and you slide the blow up seat in, blow it up, seat on it and let a bit of air out until you find it comfortable and away you go.

Thanks folks I am looking forward to this trip did Spain 6 years ago on a FJ1200. I was more worried about the XT being able to do this trip but I think my mind has been put to rest on that idea. I have been looking at putting a tank bag on the bike has anyone here fitted one and has any one got any recomendations, I did look at the Bagster but I dont want to spend that sort of money also been looking at one from Winding Roads.com this is a custom fit bag for the XT at �86. Any feed back would be appreciated.

PS forgot to mention bike also has Renthall bars and hand guards.

I use a Kappa tank bag. Fits quite well & the magnets are strong enough to clamp onto the tank without having to use extra tie downs/bungees. However, I do use the strap at the front & make sure it is firmly connected the bars just in case I hit a bump or summat & the thing decides to go walkies. I can post a pic of the bag on the bike if you want?

Ive got a Famsa tank bag, bought it off a guy from the forum, it works well with a strap round the head stock and two either side of your legs to the frame to hold the tank pad on, then you zip on the bag itself. It carrys a good few bits and bobs but isnt that large, i think it only expands to 19ltrs or so

Only downsides are you need to either half zip or fully zip off the bag to get to the petrol tank, which when full can be fiddly, but you get use to it. It doesnt have the usual 2 shoulder straps for when your off the bike carting it about so you have to make so with 1, and the map pocket isnt A4 size meaning any maps or paper pushed in have to be folded etc. (some nit picking points i know but gives you a sense of what to expect)

Sorry I know I've used this picture a lot, it's the only pic I could find with a close up of the tank bag...

It stays put purely with the magnets & the front strap is attached just in case it feels like going walkies(which it hasn't yet) Decent size with a map window, holds all my stuff including wallets cameras (including a big old SLR) among all sorts of other bits n' pieces.
