Hi I passed my test Nov 07.
I struggled with the "U" turn. I had,nt ridden a bike in 20 odd years so I had to do the C,B,T and then did a DAS I would say practice the "U" turn on a heavy bike if you can, and watch your possioning on the road thats what I got miners for!
Other than that all I can say is dont try and do every thing in slow mossion they are looking for you to be making progress but NOT TAKE THE P*SS!!
So GOOD LUCK the XT is a lot of fun:coolsmiley:

Life savers,Life savers, and more Life savers. thats basically what i was told, and its being constantly looking around you to make sure no one is going to pull out on you, or try and slip up the inside/outside when your turning.

As for slow speed stuff its all about practice and spending your time at it, take as many lessons as you think you need, make sure to try and keep practicing all the stuff youve been taught on the road, take your time and dont get flustered, and just try and be smooth about every thing.

As for the U turns the walk around ones a piece of cake, for the ride round one make sure your rear brake pedal is low enough so you can slightly rest you foot on it, give the bike a good few revs and just slip the clutch all the way round feeding it in and out slowly to get the bike going.

Learn all the routes that you might be taken on, your motorcycle teacher/trainer should know these and this allows you to see all the hazards on the road before you go on them, eg pot holes, speed bumps, schools, roundabouts, one way streets etc etc, just means you know whats coming up if he says turn right/left here and are ready to do all the things you need to

Apart from this and practice there not much else you can do. Good luck for when ever your doing it.

test

Life savers, Life savers, and more Life savers....also keep upto the speed limits( the reason i say this ...is that they failed me 1st time doing 55 in a 60 zone ???? not makin progress they said.......turn in the road to master and emergency stop......get that sorted and your on your way to a world of fun......good luck mate you will do it :-)

Cheers for the tips guys, i had my lesson today got another one tomoz, the instructor said i need to do more lifesavers and to position my self better when turning into left hand side roads because im still in the middle of the road lol

Do all the prep you can then on the day stay nice and calm and relaxed, it will make you ride better. Try as hard as you can to enjoy the day and be confident! All the best to ya.:smilies0944:

I passed my test about 2 months ago.

Practice your slow speed control (especially U-turn) and make sure you can do nice tight and clean turns without running wide and that you get good road position before turning.

You should be doing your looks and lifesavers everywhere you need to without fail and generally looking in your mirrors every 5 seconds or so.

One tip if you find signaling while slipping the clutch difficult on roundabouts (I found it hard to reach the signal button while slipping the clutch) is to do the roundabout in 1st not second....just a little slower and no need to slip the clutch making it easier. You can change up as soon as you can afterwards!

Other than that relax and try to enjoy the ride and good luck!

Congratulations - you now can feel the fun of the XT660 - just take it steady for the first few weeks - and remember most motorcycle accidents involving another vehicle come from the "I didn't see you" brigade.

Wow, well done young man!! Give yourself plenty time to approach this riding malarky with plenty of maturity and safety in mind.

Better be safe than???

Tip for life

Remember, whatever happens - it's your fault!

ride with that in mind and you'll have many happy years on two wheels.

Live life, get paid, get laid.........

Well done on the test, were you happy doing the old version, or would you have preffered the new test? be honest....

Congrats on the pass, I still remember that feeling like it was yesterday.

All you need now is spring to come around so you can really make the best of the bike!

(I went out for a ride with the Mrs on her scooter over the weekend and at one point caught myself marveling in the novelty of riding when it was not dark and the roads were dry - it's been so long I'd litteraly forgotton how good it is)

Bear 19-01-09 19:59

Welldone :WellDone_OROQR1: now just look at every one on the road as they are gona try and kill you and keep your self safe !
