Fender extender and Beak Mods

Have made a first prototype longer extension for the front guard as well as a beak similar to GS range to stop crud and wind blast coming up through tank and fork aperature. Hope to fit tomorrow. Also made simple side stand foot enlargement in 4mm alloy.

Will post pics when someone explains how its done:icon_study:

To upload pics, 1st upload them to somewhere like photobucket.com then on the message page you use to make a post use the Insert Link button (Image of a globe & link of chain), to insert the web link to the photo.

Fitting with three m4 bolts and nylocs

Starting the beak re shape means more work on what’s left of the moto x guard.
The fork holes are re posotioned and the cutouts are for the fork stanchions. Hope to get all fitted tomorrow.

All fitted today with no problems and the extender kept ALL crap off the front of the bike on a 100+ mile jaunt. Not too sure of the beak...it works with wind between tank and bars etc. but not too sure with look. Maybe a poll here to decide. Pics will be up tomorrow.:ebay:

cotthem 29-12-08 11:23

Since I have a high fender I dont have any wind between tank and bars.
But the radiator is getting a lot of mud, but if I cross water, its clean again :-)

stuxtttr 29-12-08 19:02

Cotthem does your high fender cause any bother at high speeds ?

This may be the solution for the wind up the centre of the bike.

what brand was your fender ?

taffy2 30-12-08 01:10

How have you fitted the high fender? The clearence is none existent for a standard Moto X one and they hit the Rad front face. Be nice to see a pic.

cotthem 30-12-08 14:30

Its an Acerbis fender.
I fitted it on the 4 bolts of the towing eye.

Nice one. Did you have to cut much off the rear of the guard?
I am about to post some mod pics from mine on here.

Hi Cotthem
Is that the acerbis supermotard front fender you fitted??
Looks good.
I like the no cutting idea.
If you had of kept the lower mudguard on to would that eliminated the mud in radiator problem??
I am thinking of fitting the fender just to stop the wind. i am mostly tarmac use or light greenlane.

stuxtttr 31-12-08 12:47

Yeah I am thinking of running with 2 fenders the standard lower one which I can remove for proper off roading and then a higher one to stop the wind. I was looking at an old mx fender yesterday it fits perfect at the front but will need cutting back at the rear. I may have to loose the towing eye though so the moto fender maybe a better bet.

Hi Portmarco,
yes its the supermotard front fender.
The lower mudguard eliminates the mud in the radiator and your trousers for sure.
Because I often ride off-road around my hous (shortcuts), I don't mind the mud.....anymore.

looks good:coolsmiley:

I ordered a fender to do the same but I made a mistake on the ordering and got a silver one instead:YellowWow_KKPB92:. Getting a white one in the new year

Hi Taffy 2.
What make/model of front mudguard is that your using, looks like it fits well.

taffy2 07-01-09 19:09

It is a RaceTech one I got from a local Moto X dealer. Thats all it said on the packaging or at least the sticker that came inside the plain polythene bag covering the fender. I think they come out at about 14.99 but I know the guy and got mine for 10:smilies0948:

Going to get another one and have another go at a slightly different extender shape. For a tenner I can afford to try two versions to see what fits best.

Andy

Portmarco 07-01-09 22:38

Do you find the lower fender extension keeps most of the dirt of engine and feet?
Mark.

taffy2 07-01-09 23:27

Yep its an amazing transformation. I am working on a new shape this weekend that will have a flexible lip on the bottom of the rigid white extender. This can be even lower if needed and no danger of jamming etc as it will be fexible rallyguard material.

Portmarco 07-01-09 23:37

sounds good i'll watch out for that

gaulty 16-01-09 17:29

extender

i have contacted pyramid plastics and they have put a fender extender on their development list they will e mail me if it is produced ..i will inform the site....

taffy2 17-01-09 10:35

Still working on this one as the original supply of the fenders dried up but more in now so will be starting on this Monday.

Out for day in the Cotswolds with the MK1 version so it will get a good days testing.

Stumpy 20-01-09 01:07
