help :-) adjusting front brake switch
hi all :-), i need a little advice on how to adjust the front brake???.
the problem is when i pull the brake lever i have to give quite a bit of force to the the brake before the tailight lights up, i can adjust the rear brake pedal switch which is simple enough via the manual but nothing for the front???, in simple terms i would prob be over the handlebars before it lights up....the front switch does work perfect, but not sensetive enough, any help on how to sort this would be a godsend :-) many thanks ray x |
When the mechanic came back from the test ride on my R after the first service he commented on the front break switch coming on too late. He tried to find an adjustment and couldn't. So he just left it. But I was told that i could claim a new switch on guarantee if it gets worse. So there you got it, no adjustment. You will have to ride faster to break harder, that works!
By the way, he also commented on my rear switch coming on too soon. Never fixed it as the engine was too hot for his sensitive fingers. But he told me how to adjust it myself. And i thought i was paying him for a service?! Silly me. Rob |
That sounds like shiet service!! That's why this forum rocks, minimizes the need for a mechanic, almost abolishes them! Also teaching us a thing, or 10!
I've had the same issue my front break switch doesn't illuminate the light immediately, an adjustment would be handy and one with think, needed for safety |
Who said it is not adjustable. There is a untold kev mod for this. I will dig up my photo's & post later for your.

Just found the the photos. I have never shown this mod mainly because no one has ever ask. I had the same problem & this was my solution.
The XTX & XTR brake light does not come on until you squeeze the front lever quite a bit, this mod will turn the light on sooner. The switch is tricky to get apart, you need to release the catches both sides of the switch. Use a pick, pointed object or screw driver like I did. I applied a bit of force on the wiring loom by pulling it, and then released each catch one at a time. Be careful as when the switch comes apart it is spring loaded & will fall apart. When you are finished make sure the switch clips all the way back in the lever holder. Do not remove more than 0.5mm otherwise the light will stay on. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...x/4b67b3f9.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/1-40.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/2-38.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/3-32.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/4-27.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/5-19.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/6-14.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/7-13.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/8-12.jpg |
on a previous bike
just to save the hassle of removing the switch i did it the otherway and drilled though the lever and added a grub screw and just adjusted that till it was right |
