Removing catalyst from original cans

Hi there, anyone try to remove tha catalyst from the original cans ? im going from Denmark to Cape town down the west route and really dont want to carry the weight of the catalyst since it will be ruined anyway.

G'day mate & welcome to the forum. I don't think anyone has done it on the Z yet.

Why not fit cans?

I agree with Kev. Fitting new cans is propably your best bet. By the way, I've sent you a PM since I've done that same route this year (on an R). Maybe I can help answer a few questions you might have.

Best regards

But if the catalist is removed, wouldn't it be a great place for metal fuel reserve tank ?

I was thinking the same, all replacements have 2 cans. Why not using one and use the space for something handy.

Oops newby mistake

Any thoughts on how this could be done with the original exhaust in the field? Have a chance to head over to Georgia in a few days. There is no unleaded there and I wouldn't want to ruin the catalytic converter just for that.

Thanks for your ideas.

(P.S.: Have the service manual and a got mechanic nearby).

You can't do it I'm afraid, contrary to my initial thoughts the cat is part of the underseat silencer.

Crap, that's what I thought looking at the drawing.

If you get to Durban and need a place to stay let me know, we can put you up for a few days.

Durban, that is a good place, I lived there for nine years. I used to work for Suzuki Center in Cato street, I think they have moved now.
