Right, I need help, my back tyre a Avon Distanzia is in need of replacing, the tread had almost gone on the top of the tyre, and it wold probably have lasted a bit longer if I checked my tyre pressure, but silly me did not check it since they were fitted, and have been riding round on 8 psi for god knows how long. I now need to replace front and back now as no where can get a rear Distazia and my I need my bike back on the road now, it wont hold any pressure for long, but I should get a short steady ride to the garage but thats it. Im a total noob when it comes to bikes so please can the forum point me in the right direction with a good chioce of tyres for the front and back.

If you are losing pressure quite quickly (within a few hours) remember that your inner tubes are what hold the air and if you have been riding with 8lb in then it will have probably been 'crushed'. A new inner tube will keep your tyre going (at a slow and steady pace) until you can find the tyre you want. Just make sure you keep them properly inflated and be careful on a tyre that is probably sidewall damaged as well.

Yes if i put air in it will hold for a hour or so, I just want to get to a garage and get a new set on, but need to know a good choice ASAP, would like to stick to the Distanzias but thats not a option at the moment, I ride every day all weathers so need a good replacment for the Distanzia.

Jason,

Have a look at the Dunlop Roadsmart.

They're dual compound so the rear lasts a long time, I've done about 800 miles on mine and its still a nice round shape.

Do you have an XTX or an XTR? :walk:

I Cannot comment on the XTX as I have not had mine long enough to have tried different tyres. To a degree they are like the choice of Colour or Bike, there are too many differences between what I want and expect from tyres relating to how I where and when I ride and what you or anyone else wants it is impossible to take someone elses opinion. :bricks:

The best you can hope for is that what ever you choose is no worse that you have. :incon_aargh[1]:

On the bike I would always stick to a reasonable brand. There are more manufacturers making dual compond Sports touring types they might be worth a try, if you want to commute and still have play ability. :icon_albino::119:

I am half thinking of trying the Michelin dual compond things when I need to change, if it is still summer mainly becasue I can get them for a good price at Costco. If it is into winter I will try the Avon Supermoto pro extremme I think they are called, Captmoto says they grip well in the wet so they should hopefully be good through the winter. :ninja:

Best of Luck and lets us know what you went for and how you like them. But remember to runn them in first :smilies0330:.

Hi,

My original rear Perreli lasted about 1500 miles, replaced it with a Continental Force that has done 4000 miles but now needs replacing in the next week :confused2: I'm going to relpace with another Continental Force as it's been a good alrounder, however I would say the majority of my miles have been done upright on major roads, I do about 1200 miles a month.

That should get me through till the winter when I think I'm going to replace with Distanzias front and rear.

A point of note is that tyres from different manufactures and of differing patterns may not be compatible (safe) front and rear, e.g. a Distanzia on the rear may or may not be compatible with say the original Perreli, I would check if you only want to replace 1 of a matching set. Thats what I've been told anyway so I hope it's true.
