Which paddock stand..??
Ok, i've got the bike, now i need the paddock stand.. Which one..??
I was lookin at a one of those Pro Jib Lift stands on ebay, but didn't know if it was meaty enough for the XT. What would you recommend..?? Ebay stand.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-JIB-PRO-PU...3286.m20.l1116 |
problem with this stand is it is to tall to fit under the xt so you still have to lift the bike on ,go to makro they are selling scissor bike lifts for 39.99 +vat and is ideal for servicing the bike as it lifts both wheels of the floor at the same time
|
If you use a scissor-stand type lift, what do you lift against on the bike - the exhaust pipes under the engine? Are they strong enough to take 180kg?

Where I live most of the year there is no-one to help so I use yachting rope through a tie-down over the handle bars fixed to wall hooks/tree to keep the bike upright when I remove wheels etc. |
I was just about to ask the paddock stand question from the results here it does not seem like anybody uses them. I have seem few and though it would be a better way to work on the bike.
My sond has the MX push up stand for his bike and I cannot get it under the XT but it would be on the bash plate, just where you would want to get into the Sump plug.... For around 40 you can get a pair of paddock stands but I also would like to know if anyone has used them or had any bad news.... :team[1]: let us know |
Colin, I use regular paddock stands. I have been using these from Italian firm Bike Lift who make proper quality stands. No problems so far

I use BikeTec paddock stands when in the U.K. - 39.99 + p&p from M&P.

Tjanks for the Feedback. Denny Yours looks great on those stands. I will look at the sites and see what to pick from there, but glad to hear there are no bad stories YET. :033:
Maxwell# modern oils that we are using on the bikes are all made Sticky so you will never empty all of it out when you do a change, you would not want the engine to be started every time with a metal on metal situation so you have to accept that there will always be some old oil arround. On saying that I usually pore some new oil in when i still have the sump plug out, not sure if it does much just always do it, (Its maybee an age thing).:angel3: As another story for you I used to race a Mini and changed the oil after every event so it had done about 5 to 20 minutes depending on the event. I emptied it into a clean container and used it on my road cars at their next service. (Maybee it is the Scot in me, or the Yorkshire, or even the Welsh). Sorry Maxwell not sure if I have any Irish blood:angel3::angel3: Colin |

Found this old topic and wondered if somebody can advise which rear paddock stand would be best for a 2009 XT660X?
I don't see anywhere for paddock stand bobbins on the swing arms (no threaded attachment points like on the sports bikes I'm used to) so guess this type of stand is not for the XT, there goes my idea of using my old R1 stand. Thanks

I,ve got the same stands as in the pic above BUT they are a pain in the arse on the XTX with the latest swing arm !! i,ve almost lost the bike off the rear 1 more times than I care to remember and i,ve never used the front 1!
Kev has a pic of his bike on 1 of those sizzor jacks under his bike straight on the exhaust pipes with the bike well clear of the ground. |
I've got the ones in the picture and I used them on all my XT's ie old steal swing arm and alloy swing arms (04X, 07X & Tenere). The rear is excellent but the front worried me especially on the Tenere. I would also recommend you buy the scissor type you put underneath.
If/when I get another bike I will replace the ones I have with the scissor type. The scissor type is better if you want to remove the swing arm or the front forks for service reasons. |
Hope I'm not thrashing a dead donkey!!
BUT: If I get universal type crash bobbins like these: http://members.multimania.co.uk/mgmo...h_bobbins.html Can I then get a rear paddock stand with bobbin adaptors & use it for securely raising arse end of my XT (newer ally swingarm type)?? I'm getting nervous about propping my pride & joy on an axle stand every weekend to do chain lube & wheel cleaning etc - the side stand is not really designed to take all that weight IMHO....... |
