Avon Distanzia's - no Production date via Avon until end of July 2008

All,

Please be advised that AVON have confirmed that at this moment in time they have NO prodcution date set for the next batch of Distanzias. They state that towards the end of July they will schedule a new date for the production of Distanzias, but it will not be before the end of July at the very earliest.

Therefore, if any supplier is telling you that they are due in shortly then basically they are telling porky pies.

Also, the Dave Milling issue over tyres not in stock is also worse than we all thought. Simplistically, the ones he buys and sells so cheap are DA's, that stands for Diminished Appearance, and when selling them AVOV stamp DA on the tread of the tyre as well as a sticker on the inside of the tyre. It appears from what i have found out that certain companies 'buff' off the DA stamp on the tread of the tyre and sell it as NEW.

Furthermore, E-Bay have written back to me about my complaint with this company and have eluded that they may/will have their ID revoked very shorlty due to the number of complaints about there lack of delivery, plus the fact that a DA tyre is actually a 'second' as far as AVON are concerned and should be Sold clearly stating that the tyre is a DA.

I hope the above is useful, so if you do need tyres then you may have to pay over the odds Guys n Girls until AVON sort their next production date out.

Deep Joy, or not as the case may be.

Cheers

WB

Good investigating mate, I am going to have a look at this DA mark on my tyres. I have to say this is a little poor from Avon as well.

I am tempted to take my Distanzias of my bike and sell them on here as it looks like they are going up in value!!!

Worry Brother 30-05-08 12:40

Tony,

The DA stamp is usually associated with a tyre at the beginning and end of a batch run. It is also howver used on a seconds tyre. AVON try to ensure that trade buyers highlight this DA stamp to the end buyers (US) but it appears that there are a few dodgy few out there who are trying to make a buck or two. DMillings have also adverties tyres that are over 5 years old, which within the tyre industry is the end of life of any tyre, especially if it has been left on the shelpf for quite a while.

Cheers

I have just bought the last one from Essential Rubber (after WorryBrother's call-thanks), 100 delivered, not too bad really as the local place i last used wanted 105 and obviously have none in stock.
Just need to get it fitted when it turns up (better bloody come this time).

Well help might come from Carbon Cans Co. !! :CCC:

I have discussed with Simon the possibility to see if he knows a decent Avon distributor for us to buy in bulk at an affordable price, and he does!!

He's asked me to send him the exact details/sizes of the tyres for him to pass to this distributor and hopefully we should get a group quote for buying these in bulk.

HOWEVER before I commit to this deal, I inform you that I don't want to lose my face with the possible embarassment of people ordering first and then pulling out, so once I have the details sorted with CCC, I will need to receive money up front (Paypal and your address a must) and only then I will order 10 sets or so. But if I don't get the money in advance it's goodbye Vienna.

So watch this space ;)

Capt,

Count me in please.

Avons

Capt, also consider me for this deal as I reckon I am in for a rear tyre very soon. If ordering a pair saves messing around then fine by me....

Are you considering having them posted direct to us so at least carriage is only paid the once.

p.s I did ring you on your private mobile at dinnertime on the sunday of the BMF as i was there looking for you guys but no reply. Regards, Dave.

Hey Davey, sorry but I had left my phone at home that day. I figured I can't have much use of it with one hand only.

Yes the tyres will be sent to the buyers directly this is why I said I need a concrete UK address by pm.

The message has been passed to Simon at :CCC: now so I am waiting to hear from him and as soon as I do, I will let you all know.

Rest assured I am not interested in any profit from this and neither is Simon, this is just a favour to our community so all quotes will be documented in writing driectly from the Suppliers.

Cheers

Worry Brother 30-05-08 19:23

Capt,

The 2 obvious caveats being:-
1) The Price, and as importantly
2) Availability.

Cheers

WB

CaptMoto 30-05-08 19:36

Yes those are the pivotal points in this possible deal, mainly avaialbility because in regards to the price Simon has reassured me that since this will be considered as a bulk order, the cost should be below the retail price. Let's hope all goes according to plans.

Worry Brother 07-07-08 13:53

All,

Just spoke to my local AVON rep and he has told me that production hasn't started yet but that they anticipate that the Distanzias will be with the Tyre companies in approx 6 weeks time, that is mid August at the earliest.

Capt - are you able to confirm the above please via Simon at CCC?

Cheers

WB

CaptMoto 07-07-08 14:24

Yes this is more or less in line with what :CCC: said. This is crazy, such a great tyre and such a nationwide shortage of them

Worry Brother 07-07-08 15:10

All,

And guess why??

A woman was put in charge with sorting out the popular and unpopular Avon tyres, and somehow it appears that she got them and many other models in the wrong categories, as Avon have recently mass produced tyres that they rarely sell over 12-24 months, and have NOT produced any of their popular models.

Hence, she has now been re-deployed ( if my source is correct ).

Not being sexiest in any way here, but put someone in charge who understands what these beeping things are in the first place.

Cheers

Rudderduck 17-07-08 09:37

Ok the other day I thought I should be a little ahead ordering my next set of tyres, so I ordered a set of TKC80's at my local dealer, only to find that delivery date is 2. of september!!! Then I needed a backup tyre as my rear tyre only holds for a couple more weeks. So I asked if there was any Distanzias left in Norway. And YES there was one rear tyre and some fronts left. So I'm very happy at the moment, cause I'll have a new set of Distanzias fitted on my XTR on monday!

Worry Brother 17-07-08 11:37

Well done RD.

Have they got any spare they can ship back to the UK???
You could make a fortune :)

Yeah you try that, then report back with your findings. Let us know in particular if you manage to get more than 800 miles out of a rear Maxxis. ;)

good luck

Im on an Avon Storm ST on the rear its done 1500 miles and still has 5mm of tread in the centre of the tyre and I feel very confident throwing the bike about in the dry I cant vouch for how hard you can ride it in the wet cos im not that brave in the rain but hey that keeps me the right way up!!!

I was in protyre bristol today and seen a set of Distanzia`s waiting to be fitted there so might be worth a ring to see if they have any left.
