If you are using a new camshaft, change the engine oil to a mineral oil to run the cam in. |
Cheers for all the info kev, nice too see all the piccies too.
|
No worries, I do quite a few things on my bike behind the scenes & don't document the procedure. So I decided this may help others as there seems to be an interest in fitting these Hot Cams.:bbq[1]:

There are 3 stages of hot cams that will fit the XT660X/R/Z. They will all fit but you have to use all the decompressioner parts from the Raptor 700 as well otherwise the Hot Cam does not fit in the XT. I have a complete Raptor 700 cam for sale right now if you are interested. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=10069 http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa202/kevxtx/a-2.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa202/kevxtx/b-3.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa202/kevxtx/c-1.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...artsneeded.jpg Stage 1 Hot Cam http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Y...Q5fAccessories http://www.hotcamsinc.com/index.cfm?...ssreleaseid=15 http://www.hotcamsinc.com/index.cfm?...&productid=550 Stage 2 Hot Cam http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Y...Q5fAccessories http://www.hotcamsinc.com/index.cfm?...ssreleaseid=16 http://www.hotcamsinc.com/index.cfm?...&productid=551 Stage 3 Hot Cam http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Y...Q5fAccessories http://www.hotcamsinc.com/index.cfm?...&productid=624 |

Morning Kev, thanks for clarifying. I bought from a person here in Brazil, a kit of the abduction, he was full when I asked for you I was in negotiation. I do not know which model is this cam, it did not come in original packaging, I install, I take the candle and rotate the engine with the hand carefully, then I will go with 66, then I will talk about it. My 66 is 2008, is blue, the red was now launched in 2009 in Brazil, 1 66 was launched in 2005, before there was XT600E. Thank you for your help.

I bought OTR cam and about to install it. What valve clearances should i set? Same as factory?
|

|
I will :icon_burnout[1]:
What are the dimensions of Hotcam? Aprox. dimensions of OTR cam is inlet 41.1 & 33.9 mm and exhaust 41.8 & 34.8 mm. |
You can't measure a cam like that, you need to measure the duration, lift & lobe centers to calculate the difference between the cams.
The OTR cam has proven to produce some good results, you will need a custom fuel map on a dyno to get the A/F ratio right. |
Yes I know this is not the way of measuring cam. but compared to original it is about 2-3mm smaller and valve clearance adjusting screw must go out almost all the way. But OTR replayed that valve clearances should be same as factory. Thanks anyway.

Testing must wait warmer weather. Now here in Serbia is bellow zero. Btw I have Aprilia Pegaso Strada not XT. :occasion14:

Installation of cam is done. Drove almost 50km today and it is completely different bike. Almost the same at low revs but at the higher rev it start to pull like locomotive. Exhaust sound is much louder and the mechanical sound from the engine is more intense. Is it normal to have more noise from the engine? Some sort of clicking sound.
|
Yes quite normal with a high lift camshaft.
|
Yes I know it is normal to valve noise is increased but clicking sound what I hearing its not completely in sync with engine. Will check the valve clearances once more... How often do you check your valves?
