Xt660r 2007 vibration @ 120 kmh+

Hey,

Year ago I bought xt660r 2007, bike is superb there is no match for it in this so called "allroad" bracket... BUT there is a big BUT: I have mad engine vibration over 120 kmh+ and it goes up to say 135 kmh - by that time engine rpm is so high that it goes away.

I dumped the acerbis handguards in hope to get relief.
I Installed my old CBR600 barends (custom made - special heavy) that fixed problem for CBR but with XT, theres almost no use!

The vibration is so hard that its almost impossible to ride it at 120 kmh.

This vibration has been around since i bought it and all that time I have tryed to fix it - nothing seems to help.

If you guys experience same vibration and say its normal then I think I really have to sell the bike because its untolerable to ride.

HELP!

I have had 2 XTX's a 04 & a 07 model & both of them had a vibration that comes in around 117KPH to 125KPH while cruising.

It is from the motor & is not a fault but a feature of these bikes. When I changed my gearing from a 45 tooth rear sprocket to a 47 tooth the vibration moved to 110KPH mark from 117KPH.

Full your bars with river sand if it bothers you, this will help.

Change grips

Do a search for soft foam grips (not the ones called gel grips) Foam grips are used by many Dakar riders, and insulate your hands from any vibes. All day riding is then easily possible.

Everybike produces vibrations from the engine its just the XT being a big single makes alot more than most bikes. As youve said you have already tried heavier bar end weights why not try a heavier bar itself, fill the bars with sand, change the gearing, buy foam grips etc etc.

There are a few options to try but mostly they will dampen the vibration but not totally make it dissapear. I dont think anyone have found a solution to totally make the vibration go away yet.

I think it's time to resurrect old topic :)

I had a testride yesterday with another Xt660r 07 (Piipz's bike, user here also)

Hes XT does not VIBRATE!!!! Yes it does have some vibration like big singles do but you can cruise comforly at highway speeds.

I have checked everything that could cause vibration... engine mounts, every kind of nuts and bolts.

I'm clueless now...

Anyone has some other ideas or suggestions what to check? Warranty is over also so that wont help :(

I can't say i've noticed this 'vibration' you guys are talking about either.

Im sure that every xt has harder vibration while you accelerate at high speeds... it feels like knocking (it feels like big 660 ccm explosion between your legs and thats normal)

The problem with my XT is that it doesnt go away when im finished accelerating... it gets slightly better but it's still that much annoying.

Piipz's XT is just smooth ride... no vibration whatsoever - then again it feels same as mine when I accelerated it hard.

Bought foam handgrips today.. cant wait to test em out.
