Padzuk,

With tubes mate, unless you have spokeless rims dude.

Cheers

Thanx mate!! I can get the wheels on and off but the tyre place takes over for the crucial bit.

Padzuk,

My rule of thumb is, new tyres = new tubes. Some may not agree, but if you have done thousands of miles then i would defo change the tubes as well.

Cheers

Are you saying that you succesfully threw away the tubes from your original XT rims and fitted the tyres on them without tubes, and that your wheels are keeping the pressure up or... have you somehow sealed the spokes eyelets inside the rims? I'd be very interested to find out how you have achieved this as to my knowledge fitting tyres without rims on a spoked wheel causes air to leak through those eyelets.

Thanks to clarify further.

and yes I am confued now. :D

Ahh!! I see your mechanic is probably confused himself,

The spokes on the GS1150 Beemers are fitted in the opposite way as conventional spokes, so much so that they are tightened on the edge of the hubs, you can just about see it in the pic below and, that the other part that goes into the rim is again fitted through an attachment that does not interfere with the inside perimeter of the rim itself. Which is a total different cattle of fish.

Our Takasago Excel rims do not feature such avanced manufacturing and as you can see in the other pic below these are just hoops with eyelets for the spokes to be fed through and unless you have them sealed they will let the air pressure out if used without tubes.
