Rear wheel diameters.

Hi folks.
When my new Tenere arrives in May, one of the first jobs is to replace the 17" rear wheel rim for a 18", freeing up the tyre choice.
To get me by I have a pair of Pirelli MT21 tyres, a 130/90x17 is ordered for the rear and they will be fitted at first service.
If i can find some extra cash, I'd like to get a full set of wheels made with red anodised hubs and rims. The dual front disc maybe be an issue, I'll see.
have any of you inceased your rear wheel rim size to 18" for similar reasons?

Timpo.

Hi Timpo, well at the moment no one has yet got their hands on a 2008 Tenere, and none of those with an XTR at least in this forum have (to the best of my knowledge) increased their rimsize (err... matron!!) to 18".

I would assume -with much ignorance on the subject- that increasing to that particular rim size would result in issues with the rear tyre fouling under heavy load with the top of the undertray and even with the cans, as someone discovered when fitting larger tyres let alone rims. Having said that we will have to wait and see what the Tenere can handle before we are able to make a judgement.

Cheers

Also fitting a bigger rim means the tyre might even foul the bracing over the swing arm, as ive the XTR and when you get a near tyre and push it right up to where the chain and sprocket would be tighest there isnt much room.

With a bigger rim and tyre i would say it could foul it, and would cause other problems to.

Is that read from the rear wheel then? D'Oh... it's from the engine isn't it? Ignore me, I'm being a dime bar! :googly[1]:

Its taken off your gear box, so therefore changing the sizes of sprockets, rims or wheels will therefore foul the reading.

Rear Rim 17" to 18"

Has anybody done the 17" to 18" rim swop yet ?
I have damaged my rear rim again and I have had it repaired before.

They had to weld a crack thre last time and , would you believe ,I hit the rim again in the same place.
Well there arent any rims in South Africa so I was thinking I could fit a 18:'
The tyre options are better in South Africa ?
