rim strips

just bought some strips 4 my wheels but as you know excel is written on them
can you get away with going over the writing or is it best to take off
if so, whats the best way without damaging the wheel

i have a blue bike and bought white reflective strips, anyone got a pic off what this looks like or are the blue strips better
never seem to be able 2 make my mind up

Denny 02-03-08 09:10

Some leave the excel sticker in view, some don't....I stuck mine around the entire rim.

You will not need to do any prepping other than giving the rims a good clean, the excel sticker will not come off if you tape over it.

I put that rim tape around my Old ZZR250's wheels, i got blue stuff and is very nice espically when you get the light reflecting off them looks cool. Never seen the white reflective ones but im sure blue would look better as you have a blue bike. :icon_scoot[1]:

I like the safety aspect of the rim tape especially as most if not all is reflective, it gives cage drivers something to look at as they pull out on you.

thanks guys

I have just done the same, I can confirm its quite ok to go over the excel sticker.

I have red on my rims, sorry no pics yet, but the sun is coming out at the weekend so I will take some then.

Mine will look slightly different soon as I will be ordering the Metal Mule 2 into 1 system. Refuse to pay OTRs silly prices. I considering customizing the can with a new carbon sleeve ..... watch this space and hurry up pay day!

As promised, and a day early (as the sun came out and the temptation was too much)

God those standard cans are ugly..... cant wait to be rid of them!

Tony660x 17-04-08 20:49

I have to say I like it. The tape really ties in well with the tank cover decals and the rear shock absorber spring.

I may have to consider this but in blue for my bike... It really breaks up the blackness of the bike.

Nice.

I must be missing something, but there does seem to be an underlying obsession for Carbon Cans on this site! what exactly is the appeal? There are loads of quality exhaust companies that make cans for the XT. Why have so many elected to put CCC's on their bike? :dontknow:

Akrapovic, Arrow, Termigoni, to name but a few. All used by racers world wide. I maybe wrong but I dont remeber any race teams that choose CCC as their supplier (of course I maybe wrong). So what is the lure that Carbon Can brings? I am curious!
bigwink

If everyone had fitted Akras would you ask the same question?

One substantial reason is price, doubled with the fact that CCC offer a discount to forum members.

Also the fact that practially all CCC owners are totally satisfied with them (except for certain KTM crossover people ;)), including Kev which sums it up for me.

Choice is yours mate, everyone here has voiced their own opinions, what you chose to do with the feedback is entirely up to you ;)

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying CCCs are bad choice, it is far from me to decide that. I was just curious that's all. I had never really heard of them before reading this site so I was simply curious as to why they had recieved so much support. I think you have answered my question though.

Denny 18-04-08 14:36

Oh...I forgot to mention they looked damn sexy too :chevil:

Denny nice picture mate, I have done a rough paint job to see what blue rim tape looks like on my bike and I like it. I am going to buy some and do it. When I get home I will post the before/after picture to gauge an oppinion.

Question - Other than flea bay does anyone reccomend any sites to buy from? Is there different thickness you can buy and if so what should I be looking for?

PS - Sorry to hijack the thread.

Tony660x 18-04-08 19:17

There you go, a before and after as a mock up. What do you think? Numbers check out the fact I have Arrows on and not CCC's although I have had 2 sets of those as well and they were good.

Before

After

Looks spot on Tony mate, there is a lighter shade too, sort of whiteish I think looks nice too.

There are different thickness strips too...look at the pics, mine are thinner than Number3's

Looks fantastic!!!! I would recommend Ebay for purchase, they cost around 2.99 plus P&P come in all colours imaginable and can have Yamaha etc written on them if you want. From memory they come in two widths - 6mm & 10mm. I went with the 10s as I thought it looked better.

Love the shape of the arrow cans. They look like missiles!!!! Though since Denny put his picture up I can see why he choose his CCCs - they look well finished.

Remind me of missiles as well. The CCC's ovals Denny has are very nice as well, I think the CCC's sound louder than my Arrows and the CCC ovals have a deeper grunt to them as well. Oh and did I mention the CCC's are about half the price you would pay for the Arrows. CCC oval 280 delivered in the UK and the Arrows are over 450.

I am very happy with them.

EDIT: I need to say CCC, Arrows & ovals a few more times LOL.

Tony660x 18-04-08 21:52

Back on topic, the rim tape in 10mm looks better from the pictures in this thread. It looks very bold and possibly easier to fit with less twisting of the tape.

I am going to order some ASAP.
