Hotgrips for XT660 - Do you know a type?
I have been looking for hotgrips for my bike for months, but can not find anyone which fit a 1" (25mm) handlebar.
My bike is a standard XT660. The bar is 22mm, but the handle is 25mm... All hotgrips suits 22mm.. Like Daytona as I have been used on all my other bikes and this one from OXFORD is also for 22mm.. http://www.oxprod.com/index.php?pg=3&action=dept&id=30&pid=174&p = Do any of you know a supplier of 25mm hotgrips? HOTGRIPS IS A MUST AND I LOVE IT... Regards Per |

I dont understand this but i have a set of the Oxford heated grips that you posted in the start of this thread and it has the standard bars on still. I bought the bike with them on and they seem to fit fine. They work great and give plenty of heat for my fingers. Dont understand how my bike is different!!! |
Are heated grips worthwhile or are they just for ladyboys? I can understand on a long trip in the cold but riding around town they seem soo pointless?!

heated grips
I thought exactly the same. Bought a blade that had heated grips and thought it would be the first thing to change. Like anything else, never got around to it, then had a trip to make on really cold day. Thought as they were fitted might as well give em a try. Absolute god send. Thinking of sticking a set on the xt for winter as i use it every day. (aint got around to that either !!!!! )

they are like pringles once you pop you just cant stop. I was the same didnt have a bike with them thought , ohhhh lost are for women. Got my first bike with heated grips and i have never looked back. so good, keep your hands warm, help you control the bike, ease pain etc etc. For 45 for some oxfords they do work.
In town they still work its just when you keep grabbing the clutch or brake lever the metal is very cold and cools your hands very quickly. I have thought about putting some very fine padding on the brake and clutch lever to try and stop this but havent got round to it. I know you can buy something like this. Its that there or buy those big hand mitts which i dont really like but might have to get. |
Must admit my girlfriend had them fitted to one of her bikes and they are a god send, I have fitted them to every bike I use to get into work with, I do 24 miles each way and during the winter they make such a difference, I also use Oxford muffs this keep the heat in even better, they now get so hot I have to take my hand out to cool them down, the oxford heated grips are the only ones I ahve tried the 07 and the new 08 models, the 08 I think have a less useful switch just 2 button to increase the heat and reduce while the old one was a push button and then worked a bike like a volumn swtch (much better) but either way I'd rather be called an old woman by a biker who is unable to open his hands due to cold fingers, than not have them.

The Oxford ones I have just had fitted on my 06 XTR, and they fit fine ?

I must still be drunk after New Year celebration, because I am so stupid :021::BangHead:
The bar is 22mm and the handle is 25mm (THAT IS STANDARD) and all hotgrips are made for 22mm bars.. 1 set is, one for the bar (22mm) and one for the handle (25mm).. I mixed them up and did not noticed the difference :BangHead: Conclusion: All 22mm hotgrips fit and HOTGRIPS are a must, not only for the ladies.... :coolsmiley: I have bought a set from www.louis.de, called Daytona with a switch for off/20/60w and they work perfect. Sometimes I even have to remove my hands slightly to cool them down. |
Dont worry thomsen we all make mistakes, like me when i though some guy was shared his bike with someone else as he said split for his country, how was i to know there is a town called split.
Anyway heated gripped rule:kneel: |
Another alternative
1 Attachment(s)
I used this as an alternative to the Oxford type heated grip. These elements stick onto the handle bars and you can use any grip you like. They came with a switch. wiring etc. They have a high and low setting but are so hot on the high setting that I've only used them on ther low setting so far.
They came from the states and delivery was excellent. Website http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Ride..._grip_kit1.htm |
Put oxford hot grips on my bike and they were very easy to fit and work very good as well.

Theyre Great
I recently fitted oxford hotgrips when I semi-rebuilt my xtr and they are excelent and get so hot on the high setting that I need to turn them down after a few minutes. For their relatively low price they are well worth it.

When I sold my GS I missed the heated grips so just bought some Hotgrips as I cant live without them

Heated grips
Oxford grips and they fit mint and they are not for soft b-----ds if you ride in north wales in -----4.00 degrees . Great product and at 45.00 quid ish my god they are so so so cheap . Happy christmas fellow biker . Regards neil4022:support::porn::smilies0349::SpinHappy_15X K8L:

I use the same thing as agricon, symtec under grip heaters, slide your old grip off, stick the pad to the bar and slide your grip back over the top. Wire em up an off you go. Two heat settings, high is too hot till your doing over 40 and its -2. Worth every penny of 41 off fleabay. This is my 2nd set of these and whatever my next bike is it will be getting a set of these as well.

Has anyone found a switchable wire for the +ive please that turns off when the ignition is turned off? Im looking for somewhere near the fuse box
Thanks |
I'm not sure about the ten but on the X there is a plug for the optional alarm and this is right near the battery/fuse box. It has an ignition live on it and if you don't have the alarm then it should have the spare amps to run the grips safely.
Or you could wire them through a relay. It's been mentioned here before. It allows you to run the grips directly off the battery but only be live when the ignition is on. The Standard 4 pin automotive relay cost me about 2 from Maplin. Pin 85 - Battery -ve Pin 86 - Ignition +ve Pin 30 - Battery +ve (best with an inline fuse) Heated grips Negative - Battery -ve Positive - Relay pin 87 You don't have to worry about overloading an existing circuit by adding 4A to it but your grips wont drain the battery if you forget to turn them off. I'm planning on wiring the relay pin 87 to a fuse box so I have easy options to add other toys with their own fused ignition live. I just have to figure out where to hide it all over the next couple of days. |
To MikeWright, Ive wired mine up on my r to the live feed to the headlight and earthed them on the headlight bracket. They come live with the headlight as soon as the engine fires up and off again with the ignition. You cant leave em on and flatten the battery. I thought at first they might overload the headlight circuit and blow the fuse but thats not been the case, the only problem ive found is if ive got main beam on for long periods they go cold as theyre wired to the dipped beam circuit.

Excellent thanks for the replies

I've just spent some time this afternoon fitting some Oxford Hotgrips, taking power from the battery via a relay.
It probably took longer than it should but it's been a long time since I soldered anything. I decided to solder and shrink wrap 3 of the 4 connections to the relay as they would be permanent. I also cut the in-line fuse from the hotgrips and placed it on the connection from the battery to the relay. I spent a lot of time faffing about routing the wires, but I think it looks neat now it's finished and they automatically switch off with the ignition if I forget. The relay and the Oxford controller are mounted on top of the airbox so god knows what Ill do if I ever think about a stage 3. I'm not looking forward to more cold weather, but I'm not as nervous about it. Took the bike for a little spin with just my summer gloves and I was toasty :023:. |
Crack them up fully and keep the revs at sort of mid way and you will have all the heat you every need. The only time ive had cold hands really (to the point of stopping and warming them up) was when it pee'ed it down and was 2-3oC outside and i had to ride 100+miles.

I fitted the Oxford type to my XTX. One bit of advice I would give is be careful how much glue you put on the bars when you're fitting them. I followed the instructions word for word. Fitting and refitting the grips several times with out the glue to check they would fit ok. What do you think happened when I came to do the real thing? The glue was applied and the grips slid on half way and failed to budge, 2 hours and a bust throttle cable later and I managed to remove them:BangHead:. So maybe its best to just apply glue to the section of the bar closest to the switchgear so as to avoid this problem. Also if you want to fit the original bar ends you need to trim the grips slightly so as to ensure free movement of the throttle.
