Gripes with XTX ...

I have only two gripes with the XTX -

1. Why can't I turn the lights off?

and

2. The silly front mudgard thing just sprays water straight out in front of you to drive into. I get soaked.

marcnicol 11-12-07 16:11

I've been riding with no front mudguard since my accident and I can honestly say I hardly notice the difference.

Not sure why you would want to turn off your headlight. Unless you don't want anyone to see you coming. Like for a drive-by shooting or some sort of stealth mission.

cdo1uk 11-12-07 16:35

all new bikes now have the lights on.

my only gripe is suspension too soggy

So you want the front mudguard fixed so you'd remain dry in the rain... are you talking about a front mudguard roof conversion?

Least it only goes as far as the skin huh? ;)

marcnicol 11-12-07 16:56

I think you're onto something midlife.

How about a front mudgaurd the shape of an umbrella.

Yeah - stupid isn't it!

As for the mudgard thing - the one on the Tenere looks more sensible...

:pjrlaugh_61OD3G:

you could always not ride in the rain, that would solve it

maxwell123455 11-12-07 20:29

You should be able to change the XTR's front mud guard with the XTX. The R's is slightly longer but might not look great on the XTX with the smaller wheels.

Tony660x 11-12-07 21:49

I did not realise the X's standard fender was not ideal in the wet as I changed mine over almost immediatly to an Acerbis Supermoto one. These stopped all the spray fine.

Since January 2002 it became compulsory for all new production bikes to have the lights constantly on, it is for your safety when filtering or when riding behind a vehicle and approach crossings.

Does it really matter that the mudguard sprays water in front of you when its pissing down with rain? You can't get wetter than wet.

I hate that nanny state sh1te.

And yes Captain, you can get wetter than wet. There are various stages ..

Wet ..... Soaking Wet ..... Drenched ....... and so on up to .... As wet as DBB :p

maxwell123455 12-12-07 17:47

Yep i have the same feeling can be not deside our self to have the lights on or off. Dont no why you would need to (charge flat battery) but you never know when you need to do a bit of stelf riding once in a while!!!!

Also there are 2 of grades of wet,
wet out side
wet inside

Both are not great but one is defo worst than the other.

Imagine riding your bike in the shower - with no hot water - with all your clothes on - except without a shower cubicle - .....

Now you have the picture :p

My only gripe is I sold my XTX a few months back, man do I miss it now! Roll on decent weather and I will be back, maybe not with the X, but you never know.

Oh, now I understand, bit tricky getting up the stairs mind, still, should be easier on the way down...........

DBB 03-01-08 17:41

I knew there was a reason I wanted to turn the lights off .....(no ugly-women jokes please..)

My battery is now flat as a flat thing - and push-starting an XT in my decrepid state of health is not an option.....

DBB 06-03-08 13:09

Battery replaced under warranty - not even the most minor quibble from the dealer. - First service - free of charge. That's service for you.

Redfoxx 06-03-08 14:21

well i just drive with the car,, on a rainly day,, that sorts out that mudguard.

You can switch off the light however, just turn the ignition off, hahahaha

Grim Reaper 02-03-12 23:46

I know this is an old thread, however I think I know where he was coming from with the issue.

I work shifts and when I'm arriving home at 4 or 5 in the morning the headlight shines in the windows as I approach the house.

I understand the safety issue whilst riding, but when the engines running as I'm sitting at the side of the house I don't need the whole place lit up.

It would be nice to have the option.

bikespod 03-03-12 00:31

Turn it off and on again, a bit like a computer and you're sorted. Just the sidelights remain on.

Grim Reaper 03-03-12 00:47

I still need the engine running though as the garage is at the top of a slope.

mrfijjitt 03-03-12 12:36

If the lights issue really bothers you, wire in a switch.
You'd have to find a nice location to mount it tho.

I noticed considerably less road salt and water in the mouth when I lowered my XTX by 20mm front and rear.

bikespod 22-03-12 16:28

My only gripe is the spray from the pants mudguard covers the headlight in black stuff in winter. Sorts out the headlight problem however. You can barely see it after a few days. ;)

Dan706 21-12-12 14:03

If you're riding in traffic, you're going to get road grime all over you and the bike whenever it rains anyway, no matter how well your front 'guard works on the XTX. When it comes to the light not turning off, the last thing I'm worried about is the pitifully dim headlight the XT comes with as standard compared to how loud my pipes are at 5 in the morning.

Mort 22-12-12 08:47

I re -member in the 1950s 60s the scramblers used old inner tube mud flap on the front of the front mudguard,LOL:emoticons:
