XTR -brilliant

hi guys just joined up- great to find an XT660 site! I bought my XTR new in Sept. 2005 and 24000 kms later still love the thing. It's still pretty much standard, added a Ventura pack rack, headlight protector, Yamaha bash plate, hand guards, Givi screen, Scot chain oiler, and a set of Oxford saddlebags. Impressed with the comfort and handling of this bike, have ended up doing 600-700 km days quite often. I enjoy back country touring here in New Zealand. I must admit in real steep rough stuff she's a bit of a handfull with the high seat and tall gearing but it never claimed to be a 250cc dirt bike so fair enough. I have never had a single problem or hiccup with it, ridden heaps of miles in heavy rain (Ilive on the West Coast, Sth. Island and dont have a car) and snow and out on the bitumen rain hail or shine she seems to lap up everything I've ever thrown at it. I'm impressed.Unfortunately my wife doesn't find the high sloping rear seat very amusing on a long trip anymore so have a VZ800 Marauder K4 in the shed for the two-up runs. will have to look into something different in the tyre dept. I've stuck with the original Michelin Sirac tyres but still doing heaps of road miles and the rear tyre squares off real bad but still need a good gravel tyre. Well thanx to Yamaha for a great bike and thanx to you guys for a great site

Hello there drider6, and welcome to our forum, there are quite a few New Zealanders on this forum. Show us a pic of your bike and enjoy your stay, any questions you have about the bike or how to improve it just ask.

Kia Ora,an old Invercargill guy here, for info on tyres try here.

Click the word 'here' as this colour disguises the highlight I was expecting.

This is to add that, for those with the XTX that I've been reading the tyre page and it appears that Avon Distanzias are the only 17" dual purpose front tyre.

They last forever by the sound of it,have good grip in all wet conditions and if you reverse the front tyres direction it will track better on dirt roads, these sound like the perfect tyres for Oz to me,add to that that the bling factor is high and I'm sold.

:D

I think now that i have been able to put the"X" wheels onto my "R" the supermoto guys are going to wish they had bought the "R" because then they would have had a dual purpose bike:love7:

Dave,,,,an how have ye done this,,,did you make a new mounting for the front caliper....??? did you need to do anything else.???

and this piece is for Zzzack. My rear disstanza has done no more than 1000 miles and its on the limiter in the center of the tyre,,,!!!!! ad like to have thought ad have got 2000 miles out of them.?????Yes I`m doing wheelies here an there, but ad say 90%of the time Im riding general, and its went really Flat in the middle...as for a dual purpose tyre,,, it looks like that but I assure you it isnt,,,I am gonna go for a Corsa next, an that will wear out with the front distanza then I`ll renew them both together...
