Headlight Bulb Change

Hi folks :048:

I bought some new headlight bulbs(Osram & Philips) in preparation for my trip in September, but got in a pickle trying to change them. I did as instructed in the users manual but couldn't lift the said cowling up to access the bulb.

I'm thinking it's cos of the larger screen screen I fitted with the support 'arms' that are preventing me from doing so. Is this the reason, does anyone have any easier tips on how to change the bulb? I tried changing it as is but my hands are too big to squeeze in between the forks & h.light.

Cheers all :112:

No Denny, no matter what screen you fit, once you undo the 2 bolts on the side of the screen by the top fork gators you should be able to lift the entire light assembly up then tilt it forward and lean it on the front fender or as far as the cables will allow you thus exposing the back of the beam and from then on changing the bulb is a doodle. :eusa_dance:

For what is worth, I was able to replace the headlight bulb (the main one, not the small bulb) without removing anything.
I also have a large screen but that was no problem; once you removed the black rubber that covers the back of the bulb, you need to turn a bit the white plastic piece that supports the bulb, that's all.
Installing that white plastic piece again was a kind of pita, but you'll be able to do it with patience

For those with Yamaha medium sized screens, it's not just a case of undoing the two bolts under the indicators. I finally changed the bulb but I had to remove the two top bolts holding the screen on(which were also attached to a support bracket which were preventing the light housing moving up)

Don't know if that makes any sense?

Just had my head light pop tonight so going to be fitting an Osram replacement tomorrow. Which two bolts do I need to be undoing to drop the headlight forward in order to change the bulb without hassel. I've just had a look on YouTube and there is nothing that fits the bill so will video the whole thing tomorrow.

I replaced my bulbs a couple month's ago. Patients and nimble fingers needed for the bottom bulb. Well worth it, I think I posted the results of my change, very happy with them.
