When I was 19 and used to fall off bikes ALOT I hat a DT175MX new on a T reg in blue a bloke I work with has an XT500 that he spent a lot of time restoring cos he likes old bikes!
When the weather is better we are going to meet up and get some pics of the XT500 and the XT660X together!

Enjoyed reading that thanks. I had an XT500 brand new in 1980. It was the gold wheeled model and I loved it.

I fitted a reverse cone megger silencer on a cut and shut welded pipe. It sounded like a truck. I run it once with an open manifold with just a short pipe to steer the flames away from my leg.

It was the best bike I ever owned. I had to sell it to buy a tourer. I always missed that XT500 which is why I got the the new one.

My view is the XT660 is a bit too refined, I was hoping for it to be a little more brutal and a bit lighter. That's why I don't mind the fueling problems.
