Get a new look for your XT for under 45

I'm not sure if peeps out there know so I thought I'd share these details with you. Just in case you're fed up with the colour of your XT (or buying one but are looking for a specific colour, don't worry about the colour) and fancy a change. You can get a full set of panels for just over 40. I've just changed mine from Grey to Black and I'm well pleased. If you change all four panels make sure you order the 3 small sponges that go under the headlamp cowling otherwise you'll get some light bleeding through under the screen. These will set you back a mere 1.20. So really you're getting a new look bike for under 45 so you can't go wrong. They're very easy to fit and I did mine in less than an hour, what with making essential cups of tea etc.

Not that i want to at the minute, but others may want to know where you got the panels from??????

badga 26-07-07 13:37

I just ordered them from my local Yammy dealer in Woking. They all came through within 5 days apart from the headlight cowling which had do go on back order for 2 weeks. They all come very well packed.

What about the seat cover. I take it you were lucky and did not have to change yours? I have considered changing my blue XTX for a black one as black looks very nice. Also I think it a good idea that you change your registration document to detail the new colour - yes?

Tony, Tony, Tony. Are you on crack m8? :YellowCrazy_J8GDC6:

If you change ya bike to black it'll go slower.

Repeat after me.....Racing Blue....Racing Blue....Racing Blue.

If ya don't believe me then ask KEV. He's got a Racing Blue XTX and he knows.

badga 26-07-07 14:02

Good point. Well my seat cover is another story. I had it changed not long after I bought the bike (a year ago). I never liked the two colour jobby so I called a chap call Lee (contact given to me by Fran) (Lees number is 07977 874075) he came over and re-skinned it on the spot for 50. I chose the matt black vinyl which looks the doggies. He did it so quick it was mad and WOW!! what a great job and all in one piece as well, no nasty seams to come apart etc. He also did me a matching matt black bar pad cover for 15. I've just spoken to him and he's happy for me to post his number here. So give him a call if you fancy a new seat cover you can even have your own design done. However the price will go up for this so you better get a quote first.

MM I have only considered it. I love the blue but black is also very nice.

badga 26-07-07 14:08

Well I'll run for a while with shiny black but my next step is spraying them matt black and doing some cool stencils for them. Check out my images in the gallery for some cool ideas. ;0)

If you want some really tidy art work done then I know a friend of a friend called Roz.

http://www.rozart.co.uk/index.htm

Some of her work is on the wall of the Hard Rock Cafe.

Her bike is the rusty looking blue Harley. Thing is it's rusting now and blends in with the painted rust. lol.

EDIT: Put Ace Cafe, meant Hard Rock Cafe

Badga,

Forget the Matt Black idea I've just done it to all the panels, actually Satin black, it looked great until I got a blowback from a petrol pump (3 days after painting!!!). The petrol stained the tank panels and no amount of cutting would get rid of the stain. I've since flattened them down with wet & dry and had a go at a black metallic but I'm having real problems spraying the laquer, I just can't get the finish. Anyway just thought I'd warn you.

Sorry to hear that matey. I've been using a matt black from (don't laugh) Halfords. I did my screen ages ago with it and also another bike. It's tuff stuff so I'll still go ahead as soon as I get fed up with the shiny stuff (although I will let em get nice and dirty first lol I don't like my XT looking to clean). Maybe you should get some and experiment with it. It's really good paint. I did another bike before with it and had no probs. Hope you sort yours out.

XTBlack 26-07-07 15:38

The Satin Black cam efrom Halfords too, might be an idea to spray a test piece and drip a bit of petrol on, it went a nice shade of dark brown! wonderful. I'm going to try again with the laquer this weekend I just get fed up rubbing down. It's a shame cos all the other bits look great.

badga 26-07-07 15:43

Hmmm I wonder if it's the same stuff.... I'll do a test as you say.. and let you know how I get on. If all fails I have access to a pro spray shop so I can get them to do em for me. Thanx for the info... ;0)

midlife crisis 26-07-07 16:15

Are we entering the realms of custom choppers here?

And people laughed when I suggested that I fancied a flame job on my BLACK xtx (The flames would hopefully slow it down 'cos it's far to quick at the moment :gayfight: )

badga 26-07-07 16:31

Well let's face it Yammy have been a bit stingy on the styling, so it's down to us to make the effort. I've always liked having a unique look. Stops one from blending in with the crowd old bean.

midlife crisis 26-07-07 16:48

Quite right. If you've got it flaunt it :bling:

Tony660x 26-07-07 20:05

Badga - seriously the artwork you have put in the gallery is awesome. I love them all especially the moo cow one LOL. I take it you are gonna do the special ops layout? My favourite non standard layout of all the XT's is your camo one. Its excellent.

Sideways Slim 26-07-07 20:20

I have been having this dilema about mine. I wanted to paint it green (from Blue) but when i phoned my insurance company they told me it would be 30 to cancel my policy, 20in other charges and my insurance will go up by 140!!!! All this to go to green. I have decided as it says blue on the V5 and my insurance that i would just get it done a different shade of blue. Being done this weekend so pictures to follow

CaptMoto 26-07-07 21:38

BLX

I went from gray to red, sent my logbook back to dvla to rectify into the new colour, told my insurance who's reply was..... bothered! and that was it.

Thanks for the compliments. You're spot on I love the spec. ops. version. I did the visuals to get an idea of what it would look like before I got the spray cans out. OH! and by the way the Moo Cow was done for Fran apparently he love the cow pattern style LOL.... I'm just waiting to hear that he's had the balls to get it done..."COME ON FRAN YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT"... lol ;0)
