Split chains - info please

My chain has not managed well during my tour of Scandinavia due, Ahem...in part at least, to my lack of care :laughing1:

I'm just looking at Chain and Sprocket kits but see that most (if not all) chains seem to come split. It's been many moons since I changed a chain and sprocket and I just wanted to check, do split chains still come with simple spring clip for the joining link or do I need a rivetting tool (is there a proper name for this) to make the join?

I think an investment in a Scott Oiler may be on the cards. Just need to check if these are effective for O ring chains. Any comments from Scott Oiler users?

I hope it works cause I've had one on for the last 6000 km.

Its good, but a fiddly ******* to fit and refil. Still its only 30 minutes work once every 4000km... a major convenience.

Word of warning, depending on how you set it up, doing wheelies can result in air bubbles in the oil line, which is a pain to clear... a scottolier is for placid commuting.

Hi, just fitted a new xring chain and it came split , I managed to fit it ok using a large G-clamp and a 20mm socket to push the rivet link in and that worked fine, I dont think you get many chains now with the clip system on. To get the old chain off I just used a hack-saw.:nutkick:
