Brake lines..upgrade?

Im wondering if changing the original brake lines to stainless steel will be of any benefit...
I know they will look trick but will they actually help the braking.?
I have gone through the EBC HH pads in less than 3 thousand miles but at 14.15 a pair delivered I can live with that..

WRONG SECTION..SORRY.PLEASE MOVE IF POSSIBLE.

I read somewhere that if you grip the brake line and then squeeze the lever and can feel a pulsing bulge (did I really say that?) in the brake line, it's a sign of a weak line. I also think there is a shelf life on the brake lines, which isn't that long. Gotta say though, there's zillions of mid nineties bikes still being ridden on old hoses. Personally I love my braided lines, although they were ace when new, they probably need a bleed now. So in effect mine are all show.

Thanks for the response...tbh I have fitted these to my previous bikes for show as it was one of the things you did..z650's,GPz1100 and to my 40th birthday prezzie,my ZRX1200.
Im probablly going to go ahead as Im still a big kid at heart..bling init..

I recommend the stainless breaklines - you have a much finer pressurepoint at breaking. they are tighter than the original (aged) lines and hold for a long time. My back-brake on the 660Z was just in mode: off or really fast fully on. There the difference was significant. In front just finer to handle.

I'm riding them on all bikes.

They look good....but actually are an improvement for sure! Steve

But most importantly it is a safety issue. The service manual says to replace them every 4 years. That may be excessive but when you decide to change them you can just as well go with stainless. You can get them in black surface if you dont want them to stand out.

I've not replaced mine yet, but have done it on all previous motorcycles when the get to 8-10 years.

Inflation...now 60...hopefully thier still quality fittings..

nikroc 23-11-18 20:40

They arrived today...Im impressed with the quality of them and the speed of the delivery too.
Like a big kid at christmas I was taking the old ones off within 5 minute of them hitting the floor.
Wish Id paid attention to the postion of the two plastic p clamps..hmmm

Chalk Two 24-11-18 09:13

I didn't get any P clamps with mine so I bought some small stainless steel ones and re-used the original rubber clamp sleeves as protection for inside the p clamp, (cut for size) then fitted them to the fork legs with fresh stainless fasteners. My only advice (probably too late) is to loose-fit everything and check for cable rub on anything when the forks bounce up and down.

nikroc 24-11-18 09:41

Good call on the p clips..I havent as yet fitted them..thats todays job..

Brake lines..upgrade?

Hi.

Thinking of getting these for my XT660Z. (Wezmoto ones). Does anyone have any pictures of them fitted?

Interested in the routing for the front and the colors either black or SS/Transparent!

Thanks in advance [emoji106]

nikroc 24-11-18 21:36

I got black as I wanted them to be unobtrusive and tbh most of my bikes black too.
Fitting wise they follow the same route as the originals .If your unclear then take some photos.
Top tip..hold the front lever back to the bars for a few hours, with a cable tie. You could also use a flat vibrating sanding plate held against the calipers and lines to aide the air to flow upwards.Old skool tech but it works.

Thanks for the reply. Think Im leaning toward the black as well.

It was more to do with the front line routing as in the description on EBay it states The kit comprises of two lines for the front of the bike which both travel from the master cylinder direct

This is what confused me as on the Z there is only one banjo at the master cylinder and it splits further down.

Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks again [emoji106]

The two front lines attach at the master cylinder through a longer banjo bolt that passes through two banjo heads and also uses three copper washers. The cables then route left and right of the tow hook. There may well be a longer front line to accommodate reaching the front left calliper. Before tightening any banjo bolts, make sure the 'run' of the lines and the fitment of the two banjos on the master cylinder are correct and sit properly.

Thanks thats what I figured would be just wondering what it looks like compared to the stock set up. Do you have any pictures?

Cheers [emoji106]
