A little more information regarding the right hand switch assembly.

Two Yamaha dealers informed me the switch assembly was not available or in stock anywhere in Australia.

Estimated delivery should be two or three weeks, from Japan.

New OEM cost....125 AUD

The pushbutton starter switch is not sold separately. therefore, the entire assembly, which includes the cabke harness, must be purchased.

If the delivery time is critical, eBay may be a quicker alternative.

Finally, the sheath was opened wider, wires cut and terminated on a nice toggle switch today. The Tenere starts consistently and my confidence in the motorcycle has been restored.

>That is fantastic news and what this forum is all about...........now where do I have to get to to get this brew!<

Chalk Two & SteveD,

If you are in Oz, specifically NSW, Queenskand or the Nothern Territory, I would be happy to try to meet while traveling from Katherine to Cairns to Brisbsne to Sydney.

If you are in Europe.... I may need a year or two.

Cheers!

Similar probs on XT660R 2009

Hi!
I have similar problems with my XT660R 2009.
Deep in the forrest i was first unable to start, and was checking sensor on sidestand, on/off swith, Ignition switch etc but couldn't get it to start.
After a while when considering calling for help, i forced the start button in all directions(up,down and sideways), and suddenly it starts.

My solution when getting home: Spraying oxid resolvent/lubrication in the area all around the start button and completely drenched the unit.
After that all problems gone.. Ill assume that the contacts in the start button is sensitive for dirt and oxid, and probably is working with low voltage?

Anyway, that worked for me and perhaps for any other XT lovers ;)
