Annakee Wild. ...any thoughts. .?

I am surprised nobody has replied to you. A mate of mine uses Anakees on his CCM 450 for on and off road, and his off road is not just flat green lanes it includes some tricky stuff in the Peak District. He rates them highly for on road grip and off road plus good in the wet.

I have anakee lll on at moment and they are 80% road 20% off and they have great :shsgging: friction on road and a bit like wearing a rubber off but still kick up the rear rooster and have done nearly 2000 miles on them without showing much wear if you do a bit more of the rough stuff wild is the way to go depending on terrain not getting a lot of miles out of wild if used on road as you probably no so if you like me and got to motorway an hour to get to peak district is it worth the ��� of buying wild which are 70-30% if I remember correctly so all I would say is take in to account how many times your missus will let you do it off-road :fight:

Just fitted the Wilds to my Ten-Z

to be fair its a pretty grotty day out and they are spanking new, but blimey, they are terrifying.

doenst want to steer then tips in like falling off a cliff, with a really notchy/stepped feel to the lean in, and grip on the road was almost non-existant (i'll put that down to them being new and greasy roads) wheelspins and front/rear lock ups every where, without even trying (i'm running book pressures 33/30)

i've just replaced the Anakee IIIs so a very different tyre and its a long time since ive rode on "proper" knobblys.

would be interested to get any feedback on how you are finding them. I'm hoping they get better or i get used to them. Hopefully will get off road this weekend to try them out for their intended purpose

I'm also a big fan of the Anakee III - unbeatable on the street and on dry dirt also very ok. Now to the new Anakee - i'm always using absasive paper to remove the film on the blocks of my biketires. Then the grip is on from the very first meters when i leave my workshop. Had the same with the T63 - there it was horrifying - and even more when i think to ride them "really fresh" through rainy streets.... Hope this old trick helps a bit. Will mount the wild next year when i have to replace my beloved T63. cheers and good rides Andy

A bit of Anakee Wild follow up...

2 effects at play here I believe, 1) the tyres have finally settled in, completed their run in period, scrubbing, heat cycles, whatever 2) I'm getting used to the way these knobbies handle in contrast to the excellent Anakee lll

I really thought I'd "ruined" everything by fitting the Wilds, but happy to report, after about 200 miles of mixed wet/dry road and a few miles of rocky/boggy/gravelly off road, all is well.

Decent grip on the road, mushy feeling powering out of the turns, as you'd expect, and occasionally they'll step out, not too dramatically. Weirdest thing was over coming the turn in feel, don't know if there is more mass in these tyres, but there is an increased gyroscopic effect, like the wheel resists turning, then flops in .. alomst feels like the rear slid out. Once you get used to it, it makes for a fun time on the road. Next thing is how long they last.

Off road....on the hard slatey/rocky steps on some of the local trials, can't say they're much better than the llls, but the front is much better in the deeper gravel. The wet and boggy sections are now a joy, tractor along 2nd gear slipping the clutch, front holding the line, rear barely spinning, find grip and traction everywhere. It's nice!

With my limited experience of knobbies, I'd say recommended

Sorry to admit I have zero experience with the Anakee Wilds but after having had various brands and on/off road ratios, I'm super happy to say I'm on my 2nd set of TKC80's. The 1st set lasted nearly 6000 miles (2mm on the rear left) and the 2nd covered 3000 on a trip to the UK (all on road and in the wet) and they performed superbly.

The main reason I'm staying with the TKC's is that the side wall appears softer and has made changing the tyre by hand (read bead breaking and fixing a puncture) soooo much easier than any other hoop I've had to remove, the hardest being the Karoo 3 rear.

I'd look forward to hearing from people how they found bead breaking an Anakee from the Tenere's rear.

Good feedback on the TKCs, I had considered them, but thought I'd stick with Anakee for now, although your quoted mileage is impressive, hoping for similar with the Wilds, I might have to stop thrapping it out of the bends though.

Also interesting to note, the tyre chap commented that the Wilds were tough to fit even with his air powered tyre tools! He reckoned the chances of a trail side fix was pretty much zero, no point taking my tyre levers then :(
