Xt660 Raffle to keep site going ?

Just had a thought would a raffle every month say 2 a ticket half is paid out in a one off prize to the winner the other half go’s to keep the site up and running. That way people have a chance of winning something for there 2nand it helps to keep the site going at the same time

Good idea. I would prefer that to clicking on & off banners. I do it as much as I can but I'm usually at work & its not practical.

Nice idea but probably a nightmare for site administrator.

Could do something like a send to the donate site and message raffle. Set a dead line. Write everyones name on a bit of paper put in tub and pull name out of winner. Could even do a YouTube clip. Or just do it on trust. There will be an easy way to do it could just put clip on this site of the draw. I dont no to be honest have not really thought about it. But could come come up with something if I had to. What does kev/cap think. Just trying to help

Like this idea. We do a similar kind of thing at errrr Lodge. The guys will offer up a bauble of temptation pretty much for free, with picture and small description. The 'advert' gets launched on a dedicated thread/sticky and lasts for at least a week until a stated hour / time, ebay style, so everyone gets a chance and for the price to rise.

At the end of the allotted time, the last name with cash offered on that particular thread wins the trinket with the winner sending the full amount to the seller via paypal (through a PM) and the seller then sending, say 50%, to this forum's donate button, (which would be situated at the bottom of this particular thread page) . The seller's cut is mainly to cover post costs to the winner who gives her/his address by the PM / paypal transaction.

Paypal details are kept between the seller / winner and not the forum.

The percentages can be varied according to the originator / seller but a percentage of, say at least, 20% goes to this sites donate button as it would be a clear understanding it is NOT an items-for-sale page as this would be explained in the rules in the opening page of the thread.

It could be self policing so no admin input needed. Sellers must pass on the cut they have pledged in their advert in the spirit of the thread or forever be known as a rat if discovered.

It could be a bit of fun and the items could be anything legal, bikey or not but preferably bikey, none offensive and capable of postage.

Only 'paid-up' members are allowed to see and access this 'auction' thread increasing more revenue and integrity.

For example I have new lowering links for a Tenere, I could put them up for grabs as 70% to the forum 30% postage and a starting bid of 1. After a week and 4 members have put their names and offers down, the winner is the highest bidder and if that was a 5, 3.50 goes to 'donate' via the seller.

All chit-chat about the item is done by PM to keep the thread clean and the seller must commit to giving up the item and be aware of potential overseas postage costs.

We all must have something in a drawer in the garage or in the house that hasn't seen the light of day for some time.

Maybe a sticky with a format of the auction could be run......Just an idea.

Money is best 50% to winner 50% to forum. Everyone would not mind winning money. And lots of us do not have time to watch an auction. I would be happy to buy 1 or 2 tickets to enter a raffle. Then forget about it, and see if I have won at end of draw. Then just buy my next tickets for the next months draw. I think most people would like that. Problem with an auction is only a few people might want the item but everyone wants money. And by doing a raffle you might have a lot of members will to do it. That’s a lot of money to the site. 2 a ticket I would buy 2 every time. And a lot of people would buy more than one I would think. And it would become a steady thing I think. Anyway it’s out there if the powers to be want to run with it. Not sure if they have seen this topic

Tiz true, but seems to work for ebay and which currency will the free money be in then ? Aus dollars, Euros, Czeck Korunas or good ol' 's

englishbandit 15-02-18 21:04

I would say pounds or what ever currency is worth most. That way if a winner has a different currency they get more with the exchange. Or change it each month. But think the first option would be best. This is just an idea I had to try and help keep the site going. Anyone got any better ideas please put them out there. As no one is clicking or donating so some something has to be done to get the site some money Or it’s bye bye xt660.com

It would work for eBay with 100 of 1000s of people bidding but the site does not have that many people. Also if you put up say your tenner dog bones for bidding. I dont want them so I wont bid and lots of other wont bid. But we all would like the chance to win some money.

That's not quite in the spirit of it.

The idea is ;- you are prepared to donate (give free / not interested in making money / setting market prices) an item, any item and you take a percentage just for postage.

The start price would be ridiculously low, (like all good auctions) to get the bite on the hook. It's more about your generosity to GIVE an item and not SELL it as previously stated. The only other cost involved is time but if people are not that interested in giving a bit of time / charity then I can only guess, sorry, know what will happen.

You're probably correct. If the members can't be rsd to click on a banner why would they bother reading a thread? .......unless there was something it for them. I might put my de-cat Ackers up for offer as one is dented from a minor tip over.
