I think once your lock nut and tab washer are off the shaft you may well feel free play. I don't think the woodruff key is tapered to provide a tight fit as torque is applied to the nut. I think in this case it's just a bar to key in rotational forces. May be mistaken though. Have a look at the schematic diagram on the parts page of A J Sutton's

Thanks for the link, yes looks like a square key, as said have stripped today and again re tightened, this time to 120 ish nm with thread lock and both locking tabs as tight as they could be, thanks for all the help and opinions guys will report back in a week or so with the results.
